How to Publish Your Files to the Studentweb Web Server Using WS_FTP
1. Open WS_FTP and click the New button on the topmost login window to create and save a new profile.
2. Type in the login box the following information and press OK (Use the same user name and password as you use to login on the college computers in the lab):
3. You will be taken to the root directory of the studentweb server:
On the left side you have access to all the local and network drives.
On the right side you want to place your self in your own publishing directory on studentweb by typing in the Remote Site textbox /jdoe34 (where jdoe34 is the first part of your email at myCentennial ) and pressing Enter.
4. Now you should be in your own directory on studentweb on the right side of the screen (first time you login to publish the folder is empty). Use the arrow buttons in the middle of the screen to move files from your H: (or C:, E: drives) to your publishing directory on studentweb. Done publishing!
5. The FTP application times out every max 2 min, so you’ll have to login again if that happened (see below the “Failed port” message in red):
Just press the Close button and the screen allows you to connect again:
6. Go visit your page in a browser to make sure it shows up with all the content (make sure you uploaded all graphics). Done!
7. Don’t Forget:
You have to name your home page index.html, or the server will show an error when you try to visit your folder by typing: http://studentweb.cencol.ca/jdoe34 in any browser.
You have to upload again after you make changes to a file and save it on your computer in H: (or C: or E:).
