How to Generate a Data Dictionary

SnapShot provides users with the ability to create a Data Dictionary that will display all or selected objects and fields and their properties. The Data Dictionary allows you to select the criteria included in this report. The Data Dictionary can be access from the Asset SnapShot View by clicking on the Options menu and selecting Generate Data Dictionary. Currently, only objects and fields are included in the Data Dictionary, but Profiles and Assets will be added in future releases.

The Generate Data Dictionary dialog box will appear prompting you to select whether you want to include All Objects or Selected Objects in the report.

SnapShot also allows you to select which properties you want to include. You can choose from Object or Field Properties.

Selecting Object Properties allows you to include any or all of the properties in the screen shot below. You can also reorder the list by using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

Selecting Field Properties allows you to include any or all of the properties in the screen shot below. You can also reorder the list by using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

Once you have chosen the Object or Field Properties, you must next choose which Export File Format you want. The Data Dictionary can be exported out in either a PDF format or a CSV file format. To select the desired Export File Format, click on the desired radio button. If you select PDF, you can display one object per page if desired by checking the box.

Once you have selected your criteria click the OK button to commence.

Note: As a Best Practice, we recommend that you break the objects down into small manageable pieces instead of selecting all objects at one time to avoid a prolonged wait time.
