How Technology is Changing Recruiting and Job Search

When it’s time to recruit, should you post your openings on big job boards like CareerBuilder, niche sites like Politico, or try something else entirely? Where are the brightest and best candidates looking for jobs? And how do you reach all the candidates who are not even looking for jobs (some studies show that advertising only reaches 18% of potential candidates)?

When you do get someone’s attention, how is your organization perceived by candidates? When and where do candidates form their first impression of your organization? What factors do candidates consider before deciding to apply to your open jobs?

Technology is subtly reshaping candidate behavior and expectations, and those changes have rendered obsolete many recruiting strategies. If you are still recruiting the way you did two, three, or even five years ago, you are not alone. Most employers have not yet adapted to the new recruiting landscape. But there are real advantages for those that do, and real consequences for those who do not.

This presentation will help you understand the new recruiting landscape and how to adapt to it.

  • Recognize the technological changes in the recruiting landscape, and how it impacts job advertising.
  • Understand the increased importance of Google Search and job posting aggregators – in particular Indeed.com.
  • Learn the impact of mobile devices on the recruiting process.
  • Learn the impact of social media “first impressions” and online employer reviews on the recruiting process.
  • Discuss the level of effort required, and the tradeoffs inherent in different recruiting strategies.
