Job Title: Personal Assistant

Hours of work: Various, to be agreed at interview

Salary: £9.00 to £11.00 per hour depending on experience

Job Purpose:

You will be responsible for supporting a gentleman who is tetraplegic and lives alone is his own home in Nelson, You will provide personal care, emotional and social support, monitoring, maintaining personal safety and general light domestic household tasks. NB this list is not exhaustive.

Accountable to: Employer / Supervisor

Overall Purpose of the role:

It is the job of the personal support assistant to assist the gentleman in all areas of personal, social and emotional need. You will provide care and support to the gentleman to ensure these needs are met. You will be required to support him in day to day activities, and to participate in social interactions. Your role will be to take care of all her needs in a way that keeps him safe and well.

Full training will be given

Duties:

●Personal care including catheter care

●Support with Enema

●Administering medication as prescribed, and recording.

●Support with eating and drinking, namely feeding of drinks, meals and snacks.

●Accurate record keeping.

●Attention to detail

●Emotional support and reassurance

●Maintaining a clean and safe environment

Responsibilities:

To provide support with personal care needs.

Working as part of a team: respect for other team members, attending required training, team meetings and supervisions.

Confidentiality: respect the privacy of the person you are working with, and the family as a whole. Many problems can arise from casual conversation about the help and assistance you might give. Try to maintain a professional approach at all times.

Attitude: appreciate the strains and stresses involved for the person and the effect that this can have on the acceptance of help. Understand that the preservation of dignity and independence is paramount.

You must understand your role in facilitating the self-defined needs of the lady, and must feel confident to ask when unsure. By always listening to instructions and requests you will be supported to interpret them correctly.
