The Australian High Commission - Singapore invites applications for the position of Investigative Assistant, working with the Australian Federal Police liaison office. Duty statement and selection criteria are provided below.

Background

TheAustralian High Commission is the official representative of the Australian Government in Singapore. We provide a range of services to the general public, including consular, passport, visa and immigration, citizenship and cultural relations services. We also act on behalf of various Australian Government authorities by representing Australia's interests to local, regional and multilateral government and business organisations in Singapore.

Job Description

The Australian High Commission is seeking to fill an anticipated vacancy for an Investigative Assistant within the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Singapore liaison office. The position is offered on a part-time basis. The position is 22.5 hours (the equivalent of 3 Days) per week, with occasional additional hours required depending on workload. Flexibility is essential. The successful applicant will not be able to commence in the position until the Australian Government security clearance process has been completed, and this is expected to take some months.

Tasks and Functions

The Australian Federal Police is Australia’s primary law enforcement agency. It operates a network of over 30 international liaison posts around the world. This position will assist the AFP Senior Liaison Officer in Singapore to provide high-level liaison, investigations and criminal intelligence support to both Australian and international law enforcement agencies. Duties of the position will include but are not limited to the following:

·  Provide investigative, analytical and administrative support to the AFP Senior Liaison Officer in Singapore to contribute to operational law enforcement matters. This includes:

·  Actioning incoming and outgoing workflow, including maintaining and updating police databases and files;

·  Conducting research, evaluation and analysis of information from multiple sources to support investigations.

·  Displaying initiative and a proactive approach to tasks;

·  Engaging professionally with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior law enforcement officials both in person and via correspondence;

·  Developing correspondence and briefing papers on policy and operational issues; and

·  Conducting research to support briefings, reports and presentations.

·  Become proficient in using the AFP information and communications technology. Utilise customised databases to receive and respond to tasks; including data input, data extraction and associated duties to ensure data integrity.

·  Support the Office Manager in administration of the office, organising events, meetings and visits and liaising with stakeholders. This includes undertaking the Office Manager’s duties during leave periods.

·  Continually review existing office procedures and where appropriate, recommend changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the office.

·  Maintain an Australian Government secret security clearance.

Selection Criteria

It is expected that the successful applicant will fulfil the following criteria:

·  Demonstrate an understanding of the AFP’s role and functions, an aptitude to appreciate investigative work and an ability to professionally represent the AFP to external stakeholders.

·  Demonstrated experience in undertaking the collection, evaluation, analysis and reporting of information, preferably in a law enforcement, government or regulatory environment.

·  Demonstrated ability to work in a small team with limited supervision and to display initiative, prioritise tasks and meet agreed deadlines, whilst maintaining attention to detail.

·  Proven research and office administration skills, including a good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the capacity to quickly learn AFP database and systems; and

·  Be a citizen of Australia, and hold an Australian national security clearance, or have an ability to obtain such a clearance (the Australian High Commission will facilitate the process if the applicant does not have a current Australian national security clearance).

Conditions of Appointment

Employment at the Australian High Commission is subject to the successful completion of an Australian national security clearance to the level of Secret, and a medical clearance.

Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. The initial contract is for 2 years and is subject to 6 months probation period. A pro-rata bonus of 1.5 months’ salary is paid annually in December and additional performance-based salary increases or bonuses are offered. The hourly rate salary starts at SG$25.25.

The successful candidate will undergo security vetting and authorisation processes that can be considerably lengthy to complete. Continuation of employment is dependent on the successful completion of security clearances and authorisation.

The Australian High Commission - Singapore will not be responsible for any costs incurred when applying for a Singapore visa, relocation costs, nor the return of the staff member and family to their country of origin at the end of the contract.

The Australian High Commission, Singapore will seek the necessary work authorisation if the successful applicant is a non-Singaporean Permanent Resident.

The High Commission will establish a Selection Advisory Committee (SAC) to assess applications, conduct interviews, check referees reports and prepare a report for the delegate recommending the most suitable applicant.
