Schedule and Medialibrary
· A Channel has Shows and Shows have Episodes. An Episode is a single video file and information about it.
· Broadcasts are not a part of the Media library, they are part of the Schedule. Broadcasts means what will be shown in the livestream. Broadcasts must be in the database. Broadcasts are created in the database when the schedule is imported.
· All Shows and Episodes are listed under the “Channels” folder in the TYPO3 backend. Unless changed by the user, the default behavior is that all Shows and Episodes are part of the Media library for later viewing. A partner can choose to flag a Show or Episode as one that should not be available in the Media library for later viewing. This would be an Episode, which is only available during a broadcast.
· When a Show or Episode should not appear in Media library plugins: On the tab Access, under Media Library, check the box Hide.
· If the Show or Episode should appear later in the Media library, use Access Start/Stop dates to set availability.
Schedule Import Process
The partner is responsible for creating and supporting the livestream. The Website platform will display the livestreams developed by partners, it does not create or host a livestream itself. The Hope Channel website livestream schedule is built from an xml file, which is created and imported by the Hope Channel partner.
Ways to create the xml file:
1. Partner creates an xml export from their Scheduling database, which matches the required xml schema of the schedule import file. The costs to develop this are the responsibility of the Hope Channel Partner.
2. Partner uses the Excel spreadsheet template from the support site, containing a macro which will generate the xml file for the schedule. The resulting xml document is placed on users C: drive.
The xml document schema, element descriptions and Excel template can be found on the support site:
http://support.stimme-der-hoffnung.de/de/hc/doc-schedule-import/
Notes on xml file:
· The <programuid> in the xml file must be the same value as the “Import id“ on the episode Import tab. The <programuid> must be unique, each episode must have a different id. One possible way to build the unique name, is to use the following tool: http://www.adventist.org/mamfilename/
· If the <programuid> is not found, the program will try to match the title of the episode and show. This can have undesirable effects if there is already an episode with the <program> title.
Import options of the .xml file:
1. Upload .xml file through the T3 backend. (recommended)
2. Send .xml file to special email address. (SDH to configure)
3. Upload the .xml file by FTP. (SDH to configure)
Upload .xml file through the T3 backend:
1. Once the xml file is ready for importing, log into the TYPO3 backend. In the left column, at the bottom under “Media Library”, click on Import schedule option.
2. Step 1: Upload File
a. Select the proper Hope Channel entry from the list under Channel.
b. Locate the xml file by clicking on the Search button.
c. Click on “Upload and check XML file” button to begin the process.
3. Step 2 Check data
a. If file errors: review messages, correct issues and try again. System provides details of error.
b. If no errors: review schedule preview. Verify any new shows/episodes the import will create.
c. In this step, the application searches for the <programuid> or <program> title. When not found, new shows and/or episodes are created.
d. Click on “Execute import” button to import the file
4. Step 3: Import result
a. Review the results of the import process and what shows and/or episodes have been created.
b. Click on the “Next Import” button if there is another file to import
Changes to the schedule can be made through a new import file and upload, using same dates/times.
Tags and Categories
· Each show should be assigned at least one Category. Some plugins will not display the shows, if the show is not assigned a category. Use only appropriate categories as users can filter by category in the frontend.
· Tags are used by the “Related Episode” plugin, to find other episodes which use the same tag. In this manner Episodes with the same tag will be “related” to each other.
· The assigned categories can be used by TYPO3 Plugins to filter what shows are displayed in the frontend.
· The list of Categories is a global list, which will be shared by all the partners in the Hope Channel network. We are working to keep the list of possible categories small, as it will be shared between partners. Unused Categories can be deactivated for a partner site.
· Tags should not be a Person (Host or Guest).
· An episode or show can have more than one tag. Tags should be appropriate for the content in the episode. Using too many tags can cause unnecessary maintenance if things change in the future.
· The tags list can be edited in the TYPO3 backend: /Data/Tags + Categories
Example of where categories are used:
TYPO3 Backend screen for creating/editing Media library plugin. The Media library plugin is edited and the Faith category is selected. This setup will display the shows in the Faith category in the frontend (webpage). / Shows Gallery Plugin (backend)
