History 11 Monologues
Outstanding Canadians
Students will be expected to:
• Identify and describe continuing/persistent questions that have deep roots in Canada's history
• Identify those individuals, events, and/or symbols that they believe have contributed to the development of Canada and explain their historical significance
Each student will be responsible for researching, preparing and presenting a 7-10 minute mini seminar/monologue as part of their assessment for this semester. Students will be given a list of possible historical personalities from which to choose. Research should include biographical information, major contributions and significance of the historical figure to the history of Canada.
Upon completion of their research students will prepare a short introductory photo essay. Following this introduction they should prepare a multi slide power point including a ‘References’ slide of sources used for the preparation of the power point. This ‘References’ slide should follow an APA format.

Part One: Photo Essay
A. You need a variety of photos
B. Have an original script (captions) that tells the story & connects to the photos in your movie.
C. Use appropriate music to go with your essay
Part Two: Monologue/Power-point
On your assigned day, you must prepare a 7-10 minute presentation in character that reveals the following information:
1. Basic statistics: birth, place of birth, family, social status, where you spent adult life, marital status, children, death, etc..
2. Name at least 3 noteworthy events that went on in their lifetime.
3. Discuss their greatest accomplishments (their legacy)
4. Discuss who was affected by their decisions and accomplishments
5. Discuss what you think they would have done differently if they could do it all again.
6. Identify and describe forms of entertainment they enjoyed? Who were their friends?
7. What were their religious or social affiliations? Who did they admire?
8. Tell a story about something noteworthy that has happened to them.
9. Other relevant information to help others learn about this character and their historical significance.
