Duty Statement
As a member of a team, the Video Producer/Editor of SBS PopAsia will have proven ability to fully operate all of the SBS editing/technical equipment as required for the production of all types of television content and online/mobile video for the PopAsia and music channels products and platforms.
This position will be required to provide full creative and technical skill/expertise in regard to editing/producing programs and online segments – including mobile first social videos.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a meticulous eye for detail and will have a high degree of initiative. You will be able to recognise the pressures of working in a deadline driven broadcast/online video environment.
The Video Producer/Editor is responsible for undertaking their work in a way that reflects SBS’s Charter, Vision and Values and complies with relevant SBS policies, procedures and practices. The main tasks/responsibilities include:
Operate and be proficient in the use of all Editing/Technical equipment used at SBS
- Work with the Executive Producer, utilise skills for editing and producing TV and online social video content across multiple platforms as required for PopAsia and any other Audio & Language Content division video requirements.
- Create content that is engaging and entertaining and of particular appeal to young, culturally and linguistically diverse audiences.
- Ability to plan and coordinate multiple video projects across the week and feed content to the Senior Digital Content Producer.
- Provide advice to other producers, presenters and all other stakeholders to continually improve production and creative standards of video production.
- Utilise technical and production skills for the regular updating and development of the PopAsia website and formats for delivery via multimedia and interactive platforms.
- Liaise with Technology and Distribution and raise issues with equipment as they occur.
- Provide reports and feedback where necessary or requested.
- Be proficient in the use of industry standard cameras/lighting equipment for social video production and TV segments/promos.
- Work rostered shifts across the week as required
Content
- Take a creative and technical lead for producing/editingSBS PopAsia TV and social video.
- Be across the latest Asian pop and ‘western’ pop music television programming and social video content.
- Produce, shoot (when required) and edit content for PopAsia TV and Online Platforms
- Actively participate in PopAsia editorial and content meetings.
- Be active in uploading material onto online platforms and deliver to broadcast.
- Be able to analyse social statistics and use metrics to drive social video strategy.
Communication and team work skills.
- Work with the Executive Producer SBS PopAsia and the Music Channels Manager, Senior Digital Content Producer and wider SBS team to create must-see, engaging music and pop culture programs and features for distribution on TV, mobile and online.
- Be a positive representative as a member of the SBS PopAsia Team.
Procedures
- Identify and initiate procedures to streamline the efficient use of Editing/Technicalresources
- Expand skill base where possible and follow procedures as directed.
- Keep up to date and be enthusiastic about changing technologies, production techniques and processes and the latest trends in TV and online Platform production including Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram etc.

Criterion 2 – Content and Broadcasting/Online Delivery
- Proven ability to fully operate the editing equipment and edit imaginatively after minimal briefing from production teams.
- Proven ability to provide creative and technical expertise in regard to editing programs, news and event material and online daily/weekly content for Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram etc.
- Use technical equipment to shoot/producecontent for use on TV and Online.
- Be proficient in storage of videos and content and utilise library storage facilities.
- Ability to produce content for TV and Online Platforms.
- Working knowledge of multi-media formats, techniques and equipment.
- The ability to pick up new technologies and be willing to use those skills when required
- Able to conceive new production ideas that will attract and engage a national youth audience.
- Work with the Executive Producer, Senior Digital Content Producer and other Producers to reflect the PopAsia Program Brief.
- Able to exercise editorial judgement within the parameters of SBS’s editorial and broadcasting codes, guidelines and practices.
- Keep up to date and be enthusiastic about changing technologies, production techniques and processes and the latest trends in TV and online Platform production.
- The ability to train staff if required.
Criterion 3 – Communication and Organisation
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships within Broadcast Operations, audio and Language content and with other parts of SBS and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work professionally and effectively as part of a team with collective responsibility for the allocation and management of SBS Editing facilities.
- Well developed written and verbal communications skills. Good organisational skills including self motivation, the ability to work under pressure and to assume responsibility.
