Highlights/Important Developmentsfor the fortnight from 16.11.2012 to 30.11.2012

• Total value of trading at the Commodity Exchanges during the fortnight, 16thNovember, 2012 to 30th November, 2012 was `7,46,428.63 crore. The cumulative value of trade from 1stApril, 2012 upto 30th November, 2012 during the financial year 2012-13 was `116,26,842.11crore. The corresponding figures for the previous year were ` 8, 50,686.85 crore and ` 122, 33,834.97 crore respectively.
• The Commission, on 29th November, 2012 approved the amendment to the Bye-Law No.327 (a) ‘Ordinary Margin’ for mustardseed contract of Central India Commercial Exchange Ltd (CICE), Gwalior as under:-

• The Commission, on 30th November,2012 approved the name of i) Mr. M.D. Varghese, ii) Mr. George T. Valy, and iii) Mr. Paul Joseph as Independent Directors on the Board of First Commodities Exchange of India Ltd. (FCEI), Kochi for a period up to 31/03/2014 or co-terminus with the period of recognition of the Exchange, whichever is earlier from the date of issue of the letter under section 6 (2) (b) of the Forward Contracts (Regulation) Act, 1952.
• The Commission had permitted trading in Mini and Micro contracts with the objective to help retail participants to hedge the price risk. However, it was observed by the Commission that there was Algo/High Frequency Trade (HFT) being done even in mini and micro contracts. In view of this the Commission has decided not to allow Algo/High Frequency Trade in mini and micro contracts with effect from 1st January 2013.
• Permission for launching of contracts in various commodities was granted to the Exchanges as follows:
