Online Portal Access

When you receive your letter of acceptance, read it thoroughly as it tells you what your next step is. For most schools, that next step means signing up for an email account with them through their online portal. Because of the increase in postage costs and a focus on preserving the environment; most colleges are choosing to communicate electronically with their students. You sign up for Orientation, placement exams, register for classes and access your grades online. You also receive emails about important upcoming dates, deadlines, and events. This should be at the top of your list!

Placement Exams:

Upon acceptance to any school, you must verify the need for placement exams. Not all schools require them, however, if your school requires a placement exam and you DO NOT schedule one; you could be setting yourself up for an incomplete schedule in the fall. Contact your school’s admissions office to see what placement exams, if any, you need to take. (For example, did you know WSU requires a placement math exam?!?)

Self-Advocating:

Now that you are in college, it is up to you to ASK QUESTIONS when you are not sure about something… a deadline, the location of your classroom, where to go when you are struggling. You are the only person who knows what you need, ask for help!!
