High Performance Building Week— June 11-15, 2018

Whereas, our (City, Town, County, State) is committed to improving theperformance of existing and future buildings, through the adoption of best practices and observethe role of government in advancing the design, construction and operation of commercial and residential buildings; and

Whereas, people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors, and buildings are the single largest consumer of energy and water in the United States, resulting in the built environment having a vast impact on virtually all aspects of American life and national security; and

Whereas, our confidence in the structural integrity of buildings within our community is achieved through the devotion of committed stewards–– architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design professionals, laborers and others in the construction industry––who work year-round to ensure our buildings integrate high performance building attributes’; and

Whereas, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 defined a high performance building as “a building that integrates and optimizes on a life cycle basis all major high performance attributes, including energy conservation, environment, safety, security, durability, accessibility, cost-benefit, productivity, sustainability, functionality, and operational considerations”; and

Whereas, our nation benefits technologically, economically and environmentally from innovations developed for use in high performance buildings, and provide major contributions to the United States economy while protecting citizens and businesses from the impacts of natural and man-made disasters such as hurricanes, snowstorms, tornadoes, wildland fires, floods and earthquake; and

Whereas, the High Performance Building Coalitionis comprised of approximately 200 organizations, advocating for energy efficiency and indoor air quality, and has implemented key activities to expand knowledge of the importance of high performance buildingsas an integral part of America’s infrastructure; and

Whereas, High Performance Building Weekis a time to heighten awareness of and inform policymakers of the impact high performance buildings have on communities and engage in dialogues that resultin the development and passage of innovative policies and legislation that address resiliency, workforce development, energy and water efficiency needs, as well as recognize those organizations, industries and people who work to achieve high performance buildings; and

Whereas, each year, in observance of High Performance Building Week, Americans are reminded that high performance buildings are not only attainable, but can improve the quality of our lives and produce a more sustainable world for future generations.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, ______, (Mayor, Supervisor, Commissioner, Governor) of the (City, Town, County, State) of ______, do hereby proclaim June 11-15, 2018 as High Performance Building Week. Accordingly, I encourage our citizens to recognize the positive impact of high performance buildings in our community and support local efforts transform the building industry.
