Herring Run Quilt Guild – Meeting Minutes, November 4, 2017– DRAFT

Janet (VP) opened the meeting at 9:30 AM and welcomed all and new members.

Membership – Virginia & Anne noted that there are 10-12 membership slots open.

VP Sunshine Committee – no report

Secretary – Jen C. did the minutes last month

Treasurer – we are doing fine

Comfort Quilts – Vivian thanked all who came last month and looks forward to seeing the finished quilts.

Historian – Christine thanked all involved with the great Thayer Academy show and congratulated all on the great showing and winning at the Marshfield Fair

Programs –Adele Scott is here today will give her lecture, “Rulers Rule” and teach a Pineapple Project after the meeting. Next month is the Christmas/Holiday party and January will be a Kathy Rich, a Mystery Quilt class will take place after our January meeting. February will be another opportunity to join the crowd to work on comfort quilts. The March program will be David Sirota, ‘Paper Piecing without the Tears’, and in April there will be a program on the history of the Dresden Plate, followed by a workshop.

Librarian – nothing new to report.

Getaway – Sign up and get ready for the Getaway in Sturbridge. You can all the hotel now and book your rooms. Check it out at

Hospitality – thanks to everyone for bringing treats! Those with surnames from A-L are asked to bring food for the Christmas/Holiday party on December 9, 2017.

Newsletter – Anne Marie reminded us that articles are due to her by the end of January for the next newsletter.

Quilter’s Basket – A great assortment of ironing related items and a Christmas tree runner pattern with the fabrics!

Block of the Month – A gingerbread person with any embellishments you want is the BOM for the December meeting. Many cream and orange block were submitted for the drawing this month.

UFO’s – Mary Ann chose #7 – finish your UFO by the next meeting and your name will be entered to win a prize at the end of the year. She also noted that the website is not yet updated

Quilt Museum – Mary has 4 passes to the Quilt Museum that will expire this month

Thayer Academy Show – Lynne Anastos noted that Diane H. is unable to be here today. She reminded participants to pick up their quilts on Wed/Thus next from Thayer Academy.

And noted that the show was wonderful!

Quilt Show – Nancy and Cathy are still looking for a few more volunteers to chair committees for the quilt show next September. The show is September 29/30, 2018. We still need folks for Admissions, door prizes, Raffle Quilt display, Posters etc. and online advertising and local papers. Next show meeting December 9 at 8.30. The show challenge is Tea Time, information is on the web site. Raffle Baskets, let Denise know your theme. Raffle tickets are for sale today. Each member must sell two books of tickets. Please pick them up.

Show and Tell – we saw 28 people show 42 quilts and 6 other sewn items. As always, a beautiful show!

2018 Herring Run Quilters’ GuildGetaway Week-end

Room Rate: $125 & taxes – paid directly to hotel.

Book by April 5th under Herring Run Group.

Cancellation Policy: No refunds if cancellation received within 48 hours of scheduled arrival. Please mention to them any special needs or walking difficulty so you can be accommodated. Some rooms can be a good distance from the sewing room. Call early to get the best choice of rooms.

Meal Plan and Ballroom rental fees.

A fee of $150 will include 2 large breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday, Dinner on Saturday Night and beverages and snacks as well as use of the room and an electrical charge of $10 per person. This is to be paid directly to the Guild. You can make payments as you wish as long as I have the full amount by the April meeting. I will begin collecting deposits at the October meeting.
