STUC Organising Award

As part of the STUC’s work to promote trade unions and the role that lay members play in developing workplace organisation,the STUC makes an annual award to recognise work done by trade union members who, individually or collectively, actively promote trade unions in their workplace and improve workplace organisation.

The award will be presented at STUC Congress in April 2016.

The STUC has launched this award to recognise the importance of the work done to promote trade union membership and effective trade union representation in all sectors of employment.

Award Objective

The objective of the Award is to highlight the positive difference union reps can make in the workplace.

All STUC affiliated trade union organisations are invited to support the Award by making nominations. As noted above, the Award will be presented to a Scottish trade union member, or a group of members working together, and therefore multipleapplications from each STUC affiliated trade union organisation are welcome.

Candidacy

Nominations will be accepted for an individual or a group of people.Nominations can only be accepted from STUC affiliated trade unions, and must be approved by the Scottish Secretary or equivalent regional officer.

The nominated person(s) must:

  • Be a union memberbut not a paid official of a trade union.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the trade union movement.
  • Excel in trade union organising within their own union, workplace or sector in Scotland.

Nomination Process

The recipient(s) of the award is decided annually by the STUC Organising Award Adjudication Panel. The Award will be presented at the STUC Congress 2016 (18-21 April) in the Caird Hall Dundee.
