HIGHLANDS SURGERY PRG

Held at The Estuary Club, 1386 London Road, Leigh on Sea SS9 2SQ

Minutes of meeting held on 25.10.16.

Members present: BG Dr Grant PH (Chair) AJ GL (Practice Manager) EM MP DR LS PS-S JW RW

WELCOME, APOLOGIES AND GENERAL BUSINESS

PH welcomed all those present, and introduced Dave Rixon, a new member attending for the first time.

DW sent her apologies.

PH informed us that CM is no longer able to attend, as she is now working on a Tuesday.

It was agreed by all that we and the surgery would like to say a huge thank you to CM for all her hard work and the excellent job she has done in taking the minutes in recent years.

MP has agreed to take the minutes in future.

MC had also let PH know he would no longer be able to attend the group.

GL reported that the charity coffee and cake event had been very successful. £360 was raised in one hour and one of the partners had agreed to top this up to £400.

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING

The minutes of the last meeting were read and agreed by all to be a true record.

PRG NEWSLETTER

Some items received were unable to be put in the Newsletter, due to when they were sent, and the space available. Any items not used will be included in the winter Newsletter. Any further ideas or items for inclusion should be sent to the PRG chairman.

The Newsletter is now on the website and is also e-mailed to all members virtual or otherwise.

FLU CLINICS

It was reported that all flu clinics ran successfully. PH thanked all those who had volunteered and given up a Saturday morning to help.

GL informed the group that it seems there is now a greater up-take for flu jabs administered at pharmacies. It is probable that the surgery will have to order less vaccine next year to avoid wastage.

It was suggested that we put in the Newsletter that the flu jab is still available.

A member of the group asked how long it was before the flu jab took full effect. Dr Grant informed us that it is usually about 3 weeks before the vaccine is fully effective.

BABYLON TRAINING PLAN

Babylon had informed the surgery that they were producing an update to their current app. There is no launch date available yet, but this will probably happen in mid-November. The new app will be even more user friendly. The PRG will continue at present to train on the old app, but the new app should be up and running by our next PRG meeting, so more information will be available then. It should be possible to make a new training date at that meeting, when the new booklet should also be available.

PHONE SYSTEM

GL assured us that the surgery was aware of the current problems with the phone system and that they were working to resolve the problem with BT. They apologised for the situation and said they were seeking to sort it out as soon as possible. The surgery has a system set up for them by BT, and are unable to change the current package or the way announcements were made.

A.E.D. (Automatic External Defibrillator)

It was established the surgery does not have an A.E.D. Although there is an A.E.D. at The Chartwell Hospital next door, there is no policy for this to be used by the surgery as there needs to be training for use and this can only be done for the specific A.E.D. on your premises.

CCG & PPG FORUM

PH attended the PPG Forum. She found it informative and thought attendance was worthwhile. She has circulated the minutes of their last meeting to members for their perusal.

A.O.B.

A member of the group mentioned that they had seen a programme on television about diabetes, and asked whether we needed to bring attention to this. Dr Grant explained that we had run a Health Event on diabetes and said he thought this could well become a recurrent event, to keep patients informed.

It was suggested that an article in the PRG Newsletter on the subject might be a good idea. It was agreed that Dr Shaw would be asked if he could write the article.

A PRG member remarked that they had visited new nurse Amy and had found her very pleasant and helpful. Another member said they had visited the other new nurse Jen and had found her to be the same.

Dr Grant spoke about the Success Regime. He explained that the 3 main hospitals Southend, Basildon and Broomfield would be linking and specific specialities would be found at each hospital, it was probable that Broomfield would specialise in burns, Basildon in cardiac care and SouthendHospital’s speciality would hopefully be stroke care.

He also told us there was a model that has been suggested re A&E at the three hospitals, which will be discussed at a meeting next week. Dr Grant will report back any relevant information.

Time and date of next meeting.

The next meeting will take place on Tues 29th November 2016 at The Estuary Club (opposite Highlands Surgery)
