Ham Radio Rapid Deployment Communications Kit
A project of HealthCare Association of Hawaii and HealthComm Hawaii
This is a complete self-contained and independent radio station for use in emergencies to provide essential communications. This kit should be operated only by a federally licensed Amateur Radio Operator.
The kit is housed in a waterproof, International Orange Pelican case and contains:
- Kenwood TM-V7A radio designed for the VHF and UHF bands (local communications).
- Astron power supply
- Portable dual-band whip antenna
- 125 feet of coaxial cable to connect the radio to the antenna
- 25 feet AC power extension cord
- 10 feet battery cord to power the radio from a car battery
- Manuals, documentation, forms, etc.
- Various small tools and parts.
To use the kit:
Unpack plywood base with radio and set up the operating site.
Ensure power (commercial AC or battery) is connected.
Erect antenna using available resources and attach to radio.
Review basic radio operations and check in with Net Control.
Maintain incoming and outgoing logs following approved procedures.
Adhere to standard message handling procedures.
At the end of operations, inventory the kit contents and report needed replacement parts and supplies to HealthComm.

17.Lock Switch on back of microphone. Set to LOCK
Basic operation procedure.
1. Press Power Switch (1) to turn on radio.
2. Press the Left Side Volume & Band Select (7)
3. Press the Memory Select (14) quickly! Do not hold!
4. Rotate the Tuning Knob (13) until the desired frequency is visible.
If the Right Side shows a 2 meter frequency instead of a 70 cm frequency do the following steps:
Do not pause between these three steps.
a) Press the Function Switch (12) quickly.
b) Press the Control Select quickly.
c) Press the Memory Select (14) quickly! Do not hold!
70 cm frequencies should now be displayed on the right side.
1. Press the Right Side Volume & Band Select (4)
2. Press the Memory Select (14) quickly! Do not hold!
3. Rotate the Tuning Knob (13) until the desired frequency is visible.
Turn off the radio by pressing and holding the Power Switch (1 )for 1 second.
Caution : These buttons modify the operation of the radio. Be sure to check the manual before using these buttons.

Repeaters
Health Comm is fortunate to have two repeaters at its disposal for exercises and actual emergencies, thanks to Vince H. Lee, KH6ICX. The repeaters are:
KH6ICX, with frequency 147.22+. This repeater is located atop St. Francis Hospital in Liliha and covers all of metropolitan Honolulu.
NH6WP, with frequency 444.00+, is located atop Leahi Hospital in Kaimuki and covers Waikiki to Hawaii Kai.
Both repeaters are linked via 220MHz.
