Emmanuelle tells the story of a young diplomat’s wife (Sylvia Kristel) who arrives in Bangkok to visit her husband. She is immediately pressured by her new entourage to show a more liberal attitude towards sex. Her husband is enthusiastic about this, so she uses this opportunity to pursue extramarital affairs, starting with a lesbian relationship with Bee, an archaeologist. When that leads nowhere, Emmanuelle is placed in the care of sex guru Mario, who takes it upon himself to explain to her the meaning of eroticism.
