HEAD CUSTODIAN/FACILITIES MANAGER

Principal Function: Responsible to the Associate Pastor/Administrator for upkeep and care for facility and grounds maintenance and habitability of Balboa Baptist Church.

Qualifications for the Position: Required experience – minimum 2-years facilities management; 5-years custodial. Candidate will possess a minimum of a high school diploma and additional education preferred. Must demonstrate a solid understanding of building construction and property management. Must be able to promote and maintain a positive attitude along with a solution-based approach with staff, church members, and all groups utilizing the facility. This position requires a high level of sound decision-making and organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and staff to complete required deadlines.

Job Description: Must have the ability to climb ladders and scaffolds as needed as well as be able to push, pull, lift (up to 75 lbs.), carry, reach, stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time. Position requires being able to work outside as needed, both winter and summer, in potentially extreme conditions. Schedule may include working evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the ministerial team including Christmas Eve, Easter, and special services as required.

Requirements of the Position

  1. Oversee and perform work related to HVAC operation including automation system, electrical, plumbing, custodial painting, snow and ice removal, and building security.
  2. Monitor and perform all set-ups and take downs of spaces as required for worship services, meetings, weddings, funerals and other special events as needed.
  3. Ensure proper completion of daily, weekly, monthly and annual preventative maintenance tasks for the buildings and grounds as required in compliance with all building, fire, and environmental codes.
  4. Serve as the primary contact for facility-related emergencies including any alarm calls which may require after hours and/or weekend response.
  5. Conduct a daily checklist inspection of buildings and grounds to identify potential maintenance, custodial safety, and security issues.
  6. Maintain facility and grounds in a clean, organized appearance including allclassrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen.
  7. Perform needed hands-on maintenance tasks in addition to your management responsibilities.
  8. Maintain sufficient inventory of all custodial and maintenance supplies needed for proper facility operation.
  9. Assure that all maintenance and custodial spaces are maintained in a safe and clean manner.
  10. Assign daily tasks to facility staff and make periodic inspection of custodial work completed.
  11. Hold weekly team meetings with maintenance staff.
  12. Perform annual written performance review of custodial staff members as directed by the Associate Pastor/Administrator.

  14. Assist in the development of the annual budget related to facility operation and capital projects as required.
