HDFS 414Summary of Function Rubric

Student Points / 0-1 / 2-3 / 4-5
STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS
·  More than one element is missing from the assignment
·  Summary of function is cut and pasted from previous summaries
·  No comparison of the three assessments are presented, as they relate to the data collected
·  No hypothesis of function is presented
·  More than two statements contain explanatory fictions/non-observable terms / ·  Operational definition is missing from the data sheets or is not in observable terms
·  ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
·  1-2 statements are not in observable terms (with the exception of the hypothesis of function)
·  1-2 Explanatory fictions are used in the summary (with the exception of the hypothesis of function)
·  Summary is too short/too long / ·  Operational Definition is in a header in the summary and is in observable terms
·  Assessments are compared as they relate to the data collected (i.e., patterns and contradictions in the data collected)
·  Summary of the data and graphing is at least 4 paragraphs but not more than 2-3 pages.
·  Summary is in observable terms and passes the “Dead Man Test”
·  All conclusions are qualified by statements such as “I observed” or “it seems to be”
SUMMARY OF WHAT THE DATA SHOW / 0-1 / 2-3 / 4-5
·  Summary is missing from the assignment
·  At least two elements are missing from the assignment
·  Summary does not in any way reflect the assessment(s) conducted
·  Suggests causes related to internal events
·  Conclusion ends with “this will help me in future classrooms”
·  Summary is merely a reflection on the process / ·  1-2 statements contain explanatory fictions/non-observable terms
·  Summary reflects some of the data collected, but the analysis is incomplete
·  Conclusions are qualified by statements such as “I observed” or “it seems to be”
·  The word “data” is used as a singular noun
·  Discussion “sticks to the data” as opposed to a reflection on the process / ·  1 paragraph discusses patterns and similarities in findings among the MAS or FAI, ABC, and data collection
·  1 paragraph discusses differences/contradiction in the data collected across all three data collection methods (MAS or FAI, ABC, and data collection)
·  Factors that might influence the data collection are discussed (e.g., time of day, physiological factors, bias, etc..)
·  Summary avoids causes related to internal events (explanatory fictions)
·  Discussion “sticks to the data” as opposed to a reflection on the process
HYPOTHESIS OF FUNCTION / 0-1 / 2-3 / 4-5
·  Hypothesis is written with ANY non-observable terms/explanatory fictions
·  Does not in any way reflect the data collected or the summary
·  No hypothesis of function is put forth
·  Hypothesis is not justified / ·  Hypothesis reflects only 1 or 2 of the data methods used
·  Hypothesis is not stated in one of the 4 functions
·  Justification partially reflects summary and data collected / ·  Hypothesis is in observable terms and explanatory fictions
·  Reflects the summary of the Indirect, Data Collection, and ABC
·  Hypothesis is one or more of the following: 1) Escape, 2) Attention, 3) Materials 4) Sensory
·  2-3 sentence Justification for the hypothesis is provided
·  Justification relates to the summary of assessments and the data collected
·  Discussion “sticks to the data” as opposed to being a reflection on the process
