Harcourt Reading, Language Arts, and Writing Sept. 9-13 12:30-12:45, 1:40-2:50 except on Wed.---Lexia Reading is from 2:40-2:25

Special Class---12:45-1:30---Mon., Tues.---Imac, Wed.-Fri.---Spicer computers

After special class: Pick up healthy snack in the lunchroom, discuss and take to supervised play with you. Supervised Play 1:30-1:40

2:50---Start getting book bags (1st load, then 2nd load, then pickups)

Bus loading and pickups are on a clipboard on my desk. Please return there. 3:00---1st load

3:05---Pickups in the lunchroom

Also, 2nd load will load directly after pickups---take those students that ride a bus on 2nd load to the lunchroom as you take the pickups. Mrs. Jennifer Hays was absent last week when this new pickup policy got started. Miss Chrystal Everette and Mrs. Jude have been helping load 2nd load.

Monday---Day 2 “Jack and Rick” continued

Class will complete the following activities, details given on pages noted in teacher’s guide.

  1. Teacher will write the following words up and students will review reading words down (discuss ow sound), got, up, and, in, oh (red word tap and sweep on arm), yes, make (discuss a_e spelling and sound), walk (red word tap and sweep on arm), they, They (red words tap and sweep on arm), log, rope (discuss o_e spelling and sound).
  2. High Frequency Words to Remember---textbook pgs. 72-73
  3. Discuss story genre fantasy---textbook pg. 74
  4. Class will reread and discuss the story, “Jack and Rick” textbook pgs. 75-87
  5. Meet the Author/Illustrator---textbook pg. 89
  6. Retelling: Sequence---teacher’s guide pg. 89A (will have to just draw the sequence chart on paper to complete the activity)
  7. Daily Language Practice---teacher’s guide pg. 89B (I capitalization, ending punctuation (stop sign)
  8. Writing: Story Response Describing Characters---teacher’s guide pg. 89B (maybe have students do writing on notebook paper and illustrate)

Tuesday---Day 3 “Jack and Rick”

  1. Oral Language---Teacher’s guide pg. 89D instead of morning message, call it an afternoon message: will have to write on notebook paper and place under the document camera or write on dry erase board(high frequency words, -ck words, telling sentence capital and stop sign (period)
  2. Sharing Literature with poem, “Water”---teacher’s guide pg. 89E (discuss meanings of the word shallow and sloth)
  3. Phoneme Blending---teacher’s guide pg. 89E
  4. Distinguish Final Phonemes---teacher’s guide pg. 89E
  5. Word Building (ck words)---teacher’s guide pg. 89F
  6.   12. Writing---Discuss ways we use water and how farms and businesses might use water (teacher will write down ideas). Then students will copy the following sentence frame, finish, and illustrate on notebook paper.

Wednesday---“Jack and Rick”

  1. Review Words to Remember: High Frequency Words: help, now, play, too, want---textbook pgs. 72-73
  2. Allow students in each row to group read the story (taking turns on pages), “Jack and Rick” textbook pgs. 74-87. Discuss the story afterward with group, putting events verbally in sequence from the story.

Lexia Reading is from 1:40-2:25. This is in the computer lab across from our classroom. Lexia Reading cards are in red basket close to computers by our classroom door.

2:25-2:50---Discuss Grammar: Telling Sentences Review---Harcourt teacher’s guide pg. 93B.

Thursday---Day 4 “Jack and Rick”

Class will complete the following activities, details given on teacher’s guide pgs. noted.

  1. Oral Language teacher’s guide pg. 93C: Afternoon Message: high frequency words, capitalization at beginning of sentence and the word I.
  2. Sharing Literature with poem, “Together”---teacher’s guide pg. 93D
  3. Phoneme Blending---teacher’s guide pg. 93D
  4. Blending Words (ck)---teacher’s guide pg. 93D
  5. Word Building---teacher’s guide pg. 93E (will have to use ActivInspire or notebook paper or teacher’s guide pg. 93E under the document camera)
  6. High Frequency Words Review Words to Remember: help (blend), now (discuss ow sound), play (discuss ay sound), too (discuss oo sound), want (red word tap letters on arm and sweep down the arm saying the word)---textbook pgs. 72-73
  7. Discuss story genre fantasy---textbook pg. 74
