Happy Valentine’s Day!

Math
This week, the boys and girls started Geometry. They met with Mrs. Patton’s class and took notes. They also used dry erase boards to practice some skills.
/ Science
We only had Science on Wednesday this week due to the Iowa and CoGAT testing. We finished our Matter unit by making No Bake Cookies! There are several examples of both Physical and Chemical Changes in the making of the cookies! The students then got to sample the tasty changes!
We will begin our Weather unit next week! 

Language Arts
We read about Ants in this week’s story. There were many amazing facts in this selection! Ask your child to see if they remember any of them!
We also talked about Text and Graphic Features that enhance comprehension as we read selections. Our ants story this week was a perfect example of how the text and graphic features can enhance the reader’s ability to understand and pick out key points.
We talked more about persuasive writing and the suffixes -ible and –able.
We did not have guided reading groups this week due to the testing schedule. However, the students worked in their groups one day and still read the partner books which were also about little critters. / Social Studies
We did not have Social Studies this week due to testing. We will resume next week as we learn about the reasons and events that led to the Civil War. We will spend two weeks on this unit. The Spelling words next week go along with this theme.
The week after next, the students will be writing about one of the topics related to the Civil War.
