  1. Marvin Kolodzik -1954 - Retired President of Emerson Electric – Started the NCH Scholarship Foundation and current Board Member and Treasurer providing scholarships for graduates of NCH – Scholarships for “Kolodzik Business Scholars, College of Business an Honors Program for approx. 100 students at UC. Also a Board Member for University of Cincinnati Foundation. NCH’s new track named after Mr. Kolodzik which opens today after Marvin’s generous contribution and support.
  1. Robin Cappel Steele -1968- Publicly recognized for her Foster Parenting of special needs children. Over a 27 year period, Robin and David Steele have loved and cared for 57 multi-handicapped children besides adopting 10 handicapped children of their own. This level of dedication is quite rare. She has been nominated in the past for the Cincinnati Woman of the Year Award.
  1. Shawn Webster -1967- DVM (Veterinarian) – Owner of Lodder Plaza Animal

Clinic. He was Ohio State Representative 2000-2008. Also active Ross local school board member for 18 years prior to state office. Wife, Penny Greene Webster, alumni of class of 1967 and member of NCH Alumni Assn.

  1. Linda Heeg – 1962 – Member of the Sixties Girl Group “Two of Clubs” under

the name of Linda Parrish with Patti Valentine. Duo recorded nine songs under the Fraternity Record Label. One of their hits “Walk Tall (Like a Man)” hit the top 10 in Chicago.

  1. Lou Groen - 1935– Former Owner of 22 of Greater Cincinnati McDonald restaurants and creator of the Filet-O-Fish sandwich.
  1. Bill Walker -2006 – former Kansas State University basketball player and current Boston Celtics player.
  1. O J Mayo – former University of Southern California basketball player and current Memphis Grizzlies player (transferred to Huntington HS, WV for senior year).
  1. Mike Slaughter – 1969 - No. 10 on list of the 50 Most Influential pastors in the country, was a consultant on the Spielberg movie “The Prince of Egypt”, international speaker, and author of 6 books (with No. 7 in the making). In 2009 was invited by United States Ambassador and US Congressman, Retired, Tony P. Hall to be part of a small group of interfaith leaders to reach out to the leaders of the Holy Land as part of the official peacemaking efforts of our country. Started the Dollars for Darfur Project at NCH HS.

  1. Barbara Murray Graves – 1976 – Serves on NCH School Board and children are alumni.

12. Barbara Steelman Voelkel - 1960 – Returned to North College Hill High School as an English Teacher from 1964 to 1968. She then went to UC and earned her Doctorate in Psychology. Licensed by the State Board of Psychology, she continues to have a Private Practice. She also served as an Associate Professor at UC for 38 years, teaching in the English and Criminal Justice Departments. Currently, she is Vice President of our NCH Alumni Association and is the primary organizer of the Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund. The first Class of 1960 Scholarship will be given to a NCH Class of 2010 graduating senior. “Start working hard, Juniors!!!”

  1. Nelson “Bud” Thinnes -1939 – NCH Varsity baseball, basketball, football, golf and track coach and teacher. Also started the freshman athletic programs here. As a student played football, basketball, and baseball lettering in all three and was the first athlete to accumulate over 2,000 points in his career at NCH. One of the Founders and Second President of Ohio High School Athletic Association. For his service and dedication the Ohio High School Athletic Assn. instituted a yearly scholarship in his name for children of Athletic Directors in Ohio. Was athletic director for more than 25 years in area schools. Along with Vic Cable, Joe Casagrande, George McLean, Larry Baker, Robert Kiefel and Charlie Ashing they were part of the First Booster organization at NCH. They constructed the football press box, wired field lights and in essence built the first football field. Also was a Scout for Cincinnati Reds and one of his recruits was Claude Osteen, a pitcher from Reading. Three generations of Bud’s family are alumni.
  1. Gayle Slaughter Clyburn 1973 – teacher and coach for over 31 years at NCH HS – volleyball, girls basketball and track coach –Was League Volleyball Coach of the Year for 3 years – Enquirer Volleyball Coach of the Year and Southwest Ohio Volleyball Association Coach of the Year. Inducted into NCH’s Hall of Fame. Sponsor for Dollars for Darfur. Director of The NCH Alumni Association.
  1. Dwayne Crutchfield -1978 – former Iowa State University and National Football League Player
  1. Jill Casagrande -1979– former Senior VP of Programming, Disney Channel, Senior VP and General Manager, Radio Disney.
  1. Richard Hesterberg -1953 – Lepidopterist who discovered the butterfly species Adelpha hesterbergi, which is named for him. Collector/curator, Costa Rico National Museum; Director of Animal Operations, Cypress Gardens.
  1. Elaine (Lanny) Noll -1972- Graduated top in her class and became a sports reporter for San Antonio News. She made history by going into locker room to get her interviews. Father Harry was on NCH School Board. In Texas she has a Scholarship for would- be sports writers in her name.

19. Dr. Candice Brown Johnson -1964– Candy excelled all through school and was a straight A student since the first grade! She holds degrees in microbiology, medicine and received her PhD in 1976. She became a pediatrician and later a professor of pediatrics at Case Western University. Candy has done research on the Chicken Pox virus and ear infections in children and along with a select group of physicians helped develop the Chicken Pox vaccine. She is currently a clinical professor of pediatrics at the Dept of Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital at the University of Colorado of Medicine in Denver, Co. In addition, she is a consultant for Merck & Co. and is on the speaker’s bureau for Merck, and Glaxo Smith Kline, pharmaceutical companies. Named in “Newsmakers in Medicine” she was the publication’s keynote speaker at a conference in Brazil.

20. Daniel Pope – 1980 – Cincinnati Police Officer killed in the line of action.

21. Nancy Tucker – 1984 – Director of ER and Trauma Unit at St. Petersburg, FLA Hospital.

22. Dave Bossert – 1965 – Former Disc Jockey at WKRQ 102.5 in late 1970’s under the name of Robb Stewart. Now radio personality on the “Robb Stewart Show” for Thunder Country WTRS 102.3 in Dunnellon, Florida from 3:00 – 7:00 pm, a country music station near Ocala, Florida.

23. Tom Nieporte – 1947 – Touring Golf Pro on PGA circuit – won several major golf tournaments including Bob Hope Classic – Teaching Pro in Mamaroneck, NY .

At NCH, he won MVIL Championship and the Southwestern Ohio District Championship. The 1947 golf team also took fifth place in the State Tournament. Tom was 2nd in the National Caddy Tournament.

24. Leonard “Coxie” Wirtz – 1946 – Referee for NCAA Final Basketball, NBA and Director of LPGA for several years.

25. Howard Wirtz – Referee, for College Basketball and Football – refereed Rose Bowl for over 10 years – known as The Lawyer for his expertise of the football rules.

26. Cliff Juergens - 1945 – saxophonist in the Cliff Lash Band on the Ruth Lyons 50-50 Club.

27. Albert “Bert” Guenther – 1955 – Outstanding Pitcher at Miami U. and signed with Washington Senators who later became a scientist at the US Dept. of Agriculture.

28. Samuel Jameson – 1954 – Head of U.S. UPI – foreign news office in Tokyo for many years. Master Degree in Journalism from Northwestern University. Foreign Correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

29. Ron Harmon – 1956 – On NCH School Board for 28 years – founded boys basketball, soccer, track & field, cross county programs for NCH Recreation, Two terms as Recreation Director. Ron played 4 years of football , basketball and baseball at NCH. Started the NCH Recreation Basketball League in NCH and ran the Summer Playground Program from 1958 – 1970. Founded the NCH SAY Soccer Program. Member of Ohio High School Athletic Association and Small College Basketball Officiating for many years. Member of NCH Hall of Fame and NCH Alumni Assn. Has 5 sons who are alumni along with wife, Kathy’s two daughters.

30. Charlie Ashing – 1954 – One of the Founders of the NCH Scholarship Foundation and first President of NCH Alumni Association. Graduate of Purdue with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His 43 year career at General Electric included the responsibility of worldwide quality control for GE jet engines. His father, Charles, was one of the founders of first Booster organization at NCH who helped with the construction of first football field and pressbox.

31. Garvin Brothers – Milt, Daniel and David – 1935 – Prominent in Medical Field in Cincinnati.

32. Doug Crutchfield – 1957 – Developed a world-renowned geriatric exercise program in Sweden.

33. David Lienhardt – 1957 – Internationally known geologist who specialized in the construction of dams.

34. Leon Murray – 1974 – Earned four letters in football and basketball and also lettered in baseball and track and was part of the school record 440 yard relay his senior year. Even today, Leon is considered one of the greatest all around athletes to ever come through Hamilton County. He was drafted by Baltimore Orioles and now is a Construction Company Owner. His children are alumni.

36. Stan Thompson – 1968 – Civil Development Leader in Georgia.

  1. Van Hill – 1953 – Outstanding Baseball, Basketball, football and track & field player who signed with Cincinnati Reds out of high school and played in the minor leagues. Van was very devoted to youth sports his entire life.
  1. Dr. Wm. A. Cook – former NCH Supt. Who became Head of Americans for the Separation of Church & Schools.
  1. Susan Haley Smith – 1965 – teacher and former NCH Board Member
  1. David Clotfelter – 1954 – Graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Worked his entire career with IBM specializing in computer system design.

  1. Tony and Joan Walters Mastrullo – 1954 - Joan was head nurse at hospital in several different cities. Tony is a graduate of Engineering at UC. His career at Procter & Gamble included time in Cincinnati, Wisconsin, two assignments in Mexico and a long stay in Venezuela, where he was responsible for all plant construction in South America.
  1. Gerald Molfender – 1954 – Gerry graduated from UC with a degree in Pharmacy. He then went back to school and got a medical degree. He is still a practicing Pediatrician in a group practice in Dayton.
  1. Dan Billman – 1954 – Dan is a retired Pharmacist. He owned his own pharmacy in Rushville, IN. He also studied and became an Episcopal Priest later in life. Dan’s father was on the School Board and his mother taught Health.
  1. Marvin Ault – 1938 – Played on NCH’s first football team and first center to score a touchdown. Played varsity football at Miami U. – Member of Tomahawk Club. Attended Harvard Business School. Is listed in Who’s Who in South and Southwest.
  1. Sam Cox – 1949 – Degree in Chemistry from Fisk University and retired from 30 years with the Food and Drug Administration. Fondest memory at NCH was when he received a Bausch and Lomb Plaque for Physics when he scored highest on a competitive test.
  1. Dennis Cunningham – 1966 – Former Army Lt. Colonel and a senior military consultant with the McLean offices of IIT Research Institute. Was a helicopter pilot flying combat missions during the Vietnam conflict. His decorations include a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was later assigned to the Pentagon and specialized in aviation and force development before his retirement in 1998. Buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
  1. David Schaefer - 1984 – Top Lt. in Springfield Township Police Department. He also attended the FBI Academy. Wife, Tricia Keyes, NCH Alumni, class of 1987.
  1. William Mohr – 1953 – wrote the lyrics to the NCH Alma Mater. Band Director Daniel Walker wrote the music.
  1. Bruce Baarendse -1978 – Has been Head Football Coach since 1986. NCH’s winningest coach. Lettered in Football and Basketball four years at NCH. All League Defense in 1976 and 1977. All City as a Senior. All State Honorable Mention as a Senior. Co-Capt of West Team in the East-West Game in 1978. Basketball MVP in 1977 and 1978. All League in 1977 and 1978. All City in 1978. Second in the City for Rebounding in 1978. Team was District Champs in 1977. Second on all time rebounding list for NCH (1010). Lettered 3 years in baseball and was all league in 1978. Graduated from UC – BS in Health & Phys. Ed. Played 4 years of Football at UC. Outstanding Lineman. Lettered all four years at UC in football. Also coached basketball and baseball at NCH. Member of NCH Hall of Fame.

  1. Richard Weis – 1965 – Graduate of the University of Cincinnati. 40+ years with GE Aviation including Sr. VP of GE subsidiary, Elano Corporation. Numerous awards from the United States Congress and Ohio House of Representatives for community volunteer work and business leadership. Recently served as a tutor at NCH High School helping students pass their Ohio Graduation Tests.
