Habit 3- I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.

Reminders and Important Information:
*Book Club bags will not be coming home tonight. We have a special program by the WVU Brass Quintet today.
*Elf Applications for our Santa Shops came home last week. Please complete and return these tomorrow. This is a fun way to kickoff our workshops. As we begin our shops, we are talking about economic terms of producer, consumer, division of labor, wages, quality, and scarcity. Students work in the same shop for and earn a “wage”. They can earn a bonus at the end of their job. They will pay bills and taxes with some of their wages and then will take what money is left and become consumers to purchase the crafts made by the class as Christmas gifts next week. It is a great learning experience.
Upcoming Dates and Activities:
Dec. 11- Santa shop during library Dec. 15- Coffee with the counselors and holiday read aloud
Dec. 21- last day before Christmas break (unless there is a snowday, then last day will be Dec. 22) and Christmas Party) Dec. 22- Jan. 2- Christmas Break
Question of the Week: Please have your child answer the attached question and return by Friday for a special prize.

Learning Spotlight

Reading: Learning sight words is a very important step in reading. Sight words make up 60 % of all reading material. Over the next few weeks, your child will be bringing home different sight word games. We play these games at school, as well. Minimal materials may be needed for some of the games (dice, some type of counter or chip, crayons). You will roll a dice, move the number of spaces on the board, and read the sight word. For extra practice, you can use the sight word in a sentence or write the sight word in a sentence.

Math Quick As a Wink

Below are numbers to practice for number recognition. You can use this in many different ways.

-Have your child “read” the numbers aloud -adult calls number and child finds it

-Point randomly to numbers and your child calls them out - what number comes before and after each number - find and circle odd/even numbers - highlight the ones place in green, tens place in yellow, hundreds place blue
