GSE Classroom Use Expectations

1. Space will be allocated to meet school-wide needs in order to accommodate all programs. To make best use of our limited classroom resources, classroom assignments will be based on the following criteria, in order of priority: (1) student/faculty accessibility, (2) predicted class size, (3) pedagogical issues*, and (4) other needs.

* Faculty may request particular classrooms for pedagogical reasons and efforts will be made to accommodate those needs. Such requests should be made to department chairs in writing before the schedule information is submitted. Department chairs will decide on conflicting requests.

2. All faculty share responsibility for keeping classrooms attractive and orderly. At the end of each class session, instructors should seek students’ help in returning chairs and tables to an orderly arrangement, ask students to clean up after themselves and discard food and beverage containers. Please erase whiteboards.

3. If audio-visual equipment has been checked out from the MISL, the instructor or a designated student should return the equipment at the end of each class period. If the MISL is closed at that hour, leave the equipment in a locked office until it can be returned in the morning.

4. At the end of term, instructors must see that wall space and storage areas are cleared.

Materials left in classrooms more than one term may be discarded.

5. Because of security issues, only full-time, regular faculty members who have the appropriate keys will be assigned to teach in ED 212. These instructors are responsible for ensuring that the door is secure prior to departure and that students are not left alone in the room. Students should only use the outside door for entry to ED 212.
