Role Outline:

To promote and protect open access to the countryside as a way of enabling all people to experience a greater love and appreciation of the natural world and outdoor recreation.

What’s in it for you?

As a Group Access Officer you will be working to improve and protect opportunities for access to open country. This will be done by using the skills you already have as well as taking part in relevant training to help you increase your expertise and knowledge. Whilst doing this you will work as part of a team and have the opportunity to make new friends and work with a wide range of people.

What can you be doing?

As a Group Access Officer you will be working locally on Access issues in the defined Group territory assigned to you. You will be one of the Ramblers key contacts with the local authority, obtaining new information as well as representing the organisation. Additionally, you will be working with your local Area Access Officer and Central Office to ensure that all relevant information is distributed correctly to local volunteers, keeping everyone in your Group team up-to-date and enabling them to fulfilltheir roles successfully and safely.

Role Responsibilities

  • Keep informed of matters relating to Access land in your territory through information sent from central office, from local Group networks, from local access forums and from local authorities.
  • Monitor, and report back to the Area Access Officer and staff at central office, about relevant local access issues and successes.
  • Co-ordinate the access work across your Group territory, for instance, through contact with local members, or the establishment of a Group Access Committee.
  • Represent the Ramblers on access issues when communicating with external agencies.
  • Ensure that news and important information about access issues is represented in Group publications (e.g. newsletter and website), and with the Group Publicity Officer, to the wider public through the local media.
  • Provide local examples to Central Office for use in national campaigns.
  • Liaise with Group Access Officers in neighbouring Groups to exchange ideas and experiences.
