Ground-breaking: DPD builds new parcel distribution centre in Dinkelsbühl

Total DPD investment of 11 million euros

More than 90 new jobs to be created in the region

Even better service for the region's consignees and shippers

Dinkelsbühl/Aschaffenburg, 09 April 2014 – International parcel and express service provider DPD is constructing a new parcel distribution centre in Dinkelsbühl, central Franconia, at an overall cost of 11 million euros. The official start of construction work was celebrated today with a ground-breaking ceremony. The new centre is to be opened early in 2015 and will have a staff of more than 90 employees.

"Closeness to the customer is an important competitive factor for us. Our new distribution centre in Dinkelsbühl will put us in the position to offer our customers in the region even better service. Because of its ideal positioning within the delivery area and its transport links Business Park Waldeck is the best possible location for us", comments DPD project manager Milad Zadeh. Dinkelsbühl will, among other areas, serve shippers and consignees in Aalen, Feuchtwangen, Crailsheim and Ellwangen, all of which had previously been served by the DPD depots in Nuremberg, Heilbronn and Neu-Ulm.

"DPD's investment confirms the importance of Business Park Waldeck for Dinkelsbühl as a business location. We are delighted that new jobs will also be created in the region", confirms Dr. Christoph Hammer, mayor of Dinkelsbühl. A total of 65 delivery drivers and just under 30 depot staff will be in operation daily on behalf of DPD's parcel shippers and consignees.

The depot in Dinkelsbühl-Waldeck will be constructed on an overall area of 23,100 m² (built-up area: 18.000 m²). The core of the new facility is the parcel sorting installation, which will be able to handle up to 16,500 parcels a day when operations begin. Environmental considerations have played a major part in the planning of the new location, with solar power being used in the heating of the office building. In addition there will be a reduction in CO2 emissions because the new facility will shorten transport distances to shippers and consignees.

When the new parcel distribution centre in Dinkelsbühl comes on stream the number of DPD depots in Germany will rise to 76. Within Germany as a whole DPD has a workforce of 7,500 and a fleet of 7,000 delivery vehicles. More than 2.5 million parcels are shipped daily within the international DPD network.
