Greetings and Happy Spring,

You have been included in this email News Update because you are one of the many hundreds of Bonnet residents who have responded in support of your Bonnet Land Trust’s major Public Safety project to build an elevated walkway alongside the causeway. Everyone who lives in Bonnet, or has had the pleasure of visiting us, is very familiar with the challenge of safely navigating the Causeway. For many years, pedestrians, bicycles, strollers, beach carts and the like have been sharing this narrow 19’ wide roadway with vehicles, a condition which is not only scary but down-right dangerous. Some of your neighbors can tell you stories of being hit by a car or having had a close call or two.

The Land Trust’s (LT) solution is to get pedestrians, bicycles etc. off the roadway and onto a safe elevated Walkway beside the Causeway from Allagash Trail to the end of the Causeway. This project is a viable solution to a serious safety concern.

The LT is well on its way with the Walkway project. They are assembling the necessary documents to petition the Town and CRMC to allow us to build this structure on LT owned land as a Public Safety project. The BSFD Council, the Town Council, Town Management and CRMC are all in support of this very important project.

The LT has assembled a Walkway Project Advisory Committee to be actively engaged in the process and drive the fundraising effort. Applications have been submitted to the Champlin Foundation and the RI Foundation for grants to help with the cost. The balance of the necessary funds will be obtained through a combination of other available grants, loans and private funding. We are looking for all of you to join this committee so that Bonnet may take advantage of the many talented, knowledgeable and concerned neighbors we know live here.

For more information on the project, please visit our website at

We will send an email shortly notifying you of the next meeting of the Walkway Project Advisory Committee. Land Trust monthly meetings are also posted on our website. Please feel free to contact the Land Trust or respond to this email with any questions.

From time to time, we will send email updates to keep you informed of our progress and fundraising plans. Please stay tuned and spread the news!!

Sincerely,

Friends of the Bonnet Walkway
