73 members in attendance.

Karen Dollins, President, called the meeting to order.

The slate of officers was presented. Tyler Edwards moved to accept ballot. Sandy Greene seconded. Motion carried.

Stephanie Sekelsky, secretary/treasurer, distributed the treasurer’s report. The balance is $15,784.26. She also read through minutes from previous general meeting. Grant Maledy moved to accept minutes and treasurer’s report as is. SheaTwenter seconded. Motion carried.

SheaTwenter, Jr. High Choral VP, announced that the event will be held in the UCM Union Ballroom. It will be held on November 5th. Stephen Homberg will direct.

Jacob Crawford, Jr. High Band VP, announced that clinicians Steve Litwiller and Andy Ford were awesome. January 14, 2017 will be next year’s event. No auditions will be held – event will stay as is after a vote by the directors involved in the event.

Charity Johnson, Choral VP, announced that auditions will be held September 10th and the performance on October 12. Oak Grove will host the auditions. A performance sight is yet to be determined.

Reid Atkinson, Band VP, announced that November 5th will be auditions held at Warrensburg High School. January 6 and 7 of 2017 will be rehearsal and performance dates held at UCM. Jeremy Meyer is taking over with assistance by Sarah Ray.

Grant Maledy, Jazz VP, announced audition date of November 5th at Warrensburg High School. The first rehearsal will be held at Warrensburg High School on January 13, with the rest of rehearsal time and performance at Smith-Cotton Junior High on Saturday, January 14th.

Britt Faaborg, 5/6 Choir VP, was thanked for his awesome service. He will no longer be 5/6 Choir VP after several very successful years. Thanks, Britt!!

Kathie Appleton, MIOSM Chairperson, announced that we should stay in good stead with our administration. She advised us to put some sort of insert into programs indicating the importance of music education.

Steve Litwiller, Mentoring Chair, said that our district is the bomb for starting off the mentoring program. The October event went well and more superintendents are aware of the program. MBA has a mentoring program. MBA Convention is held Jun 19-22 here at Tan-Tar-A.

Other announcements:

MCDA event will be July 20-23. There have been some sightreading discussions. Alice Parker will be the headliner at the conference.

Congratulations to UCM Choir for their outstanding performance at this year’s conference.

Adam Twenter, President-Elect, announced that our Constitution needs revising. Email him with suggestions. The band area has changed how voting for the VP has occurred. Other events would need to discuss their voting strategies and present proposals to the board.

Claudia Schmidts from Warsaw and Jacob Small from California were the first two recipients of the WCMMEA $500 scholarships. Congratulations!

Karen Dollins reminded us to submit recordings to MMEA for possible consideration of performance!
