Greek Awards Application Information

  • All application materials are due by Monday, January 6, 2014 by 12PMto . All application materials for the chapter must be sent in one email with the chapter advisor copied on the email. The Greek Man Award materials can be sent separately from the chapter packet.
  • Chapters may choose to select particular awards for which they wish to apply or apply for all awards.**Please Note: Six awards are included in the 2013Standards of Excellence Program (Outstanding Advisor, Outstanding Faculty Member, Outstanding Staff Member, Outstanding New Member Scholar, Outstanding Greek Athlete, and Outstanding Greek Man).
  • All application materials should include information from Spring Semester 2013 through Fall Semester 2013.
  • Only one application packet needs to be submitted per chapter.
  • Each award is limited to 2 pages of typed informationdouble spacedin 12 point font, with the exception of the Greek Man of the Year Award (due to the many requirements). If an award is more than 2 pages, it will not be considered.
  • Chapters will need to fill out the application by typing into the documents provided by the Office of Student Involvement. Each Award should begin on a new page (and is not to exceed 2 pages). In addition, please remember to fill in your chapter name in the header of the document.
  • If your chapter has nominated a candidate for Greek Man of the Year, you must notify the candidate of the nomination and the needed requirements he must complete. Please keep in mind the requirements consist of a recommendation letter so individuals should request this prior to the semester break.

The Baker Innovation Award

The Baker Innovation Award is named in honor of Ohio Northern University’s 10th president and first lady, Kendall and Toby Baker. The award is presented in honor of the innovative spirit present on campus during the tenure of Dr. and Mrs. Baker. This award recognizes the chapter that demonstrates a commitment to innovative programming for our members and our community. The award will recognize chapter innovation for a program, service project, alumni event, philanthropic project, social event, or educational event. This award is not intended to honor the fraternity with the biggest and “most successful” event/program but the chapter who created something new for the community or their members.

Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award

The Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award is given to the ONU Chapter Advisor who best exemplifies the ideals and philosophies of the National Interfraternity Conference. This Award recognizes the advisor who shows outstanding support of the chapter and of the Greek community as a whole.

Outstanding Community Service Award

The Outstanding Community ServiceAward is given to the ONU Greek chapter who best exemplifies the ideals and philosophies of the National Interfraternity Conference. This award recognizes the chapter that demonstrates a consistent commitment to serving not only the ONU community, but also the surrounding community by implementing an outstanding community service program which demonstrates a yearlong commitment to service. This award is not intended to honor the fraternity with the biggest and “most successful” community service project but the chapter who strives (all year) to continually make a difference in the community.

In a short essay, describe the chapter’s commitment to community service (Spring Semester 2013through Fall Semester 2013).

List the chapter’s community service on a campus level (Spring Semester 2013 through Fall Semester 2013).

List the chapter’s community service involvement (outside of ONU) during the past year (Spring Semester 2013 through Fall Semester 2013).

Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award

The Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award is given to a faculty member of the ONU community who exemplifies the ideals and philosophies of the Greek community at OhioNorthernUniversity. This Award recognizes a member of the community who displays outstanding qualities and contributions to the chapter and Greek community as a whole. Employees of the Office of Student Involvement and chapter/faculty advisors are not eligible for this Award.

The Outstanding Greek Athlete of the Year Award is given to the ONU Greek student athlete who best exemplifies the ideals and philosophies of the National Interfraternity Conference. This award recognizes the student athlete in the community that strives to better the overall Greek image through campus, community, and Greek involvement.

Outstanding Greek Man of the Year

The Outstanding Greek Man of the Year Award is given to the ONU Greek manwho best exemplifies the ideals and philosophies of the National Interfraternity Conference. This award recognizes the man in the community that stands for and strives to better the overall Greek image through campus, community, and Greek involvement.

Each chapter is responsible for the following:

  • Nomination of one Greek Man per chapter for the award.
  • Submitting a one-page typed essay with the Greek Awards packet noting why the candidate was nominated as well as why he should receive this award.

Each nominee is responsible for the following:

  • One recommendation letter from an ONU Faculty/Staff member (cannot be from employees in the Office of Student Involvement or chapter/faculty advisor).
  • Provide a list of involvements including Greek and non-Greek activities with offices held and awards/accomplishments received while at ONU.
  • Provide a one-page essay describing your involvement and commitment to the Greek community at OhioNorthernUniversity.
  • All items must be submitted to eparate from the chapter’s application by Monday, January 6, 2014at 12pm.

Nominees may be contacted for an interview with the Greek Awards Selection Committee.

Outstanding New Member Scholar of the Year

The Outstanding New Member Scholar of the Year Award is given to the ONU Greek student who best exemplifies the ideals and philosophies of the National Interfraternity Conference. This award recognizes the student in the community that stands for and demonstrates high academic integrity and has maintained a high G.P.A. duringthe New Member period in one regular academic year.

The project must demonstrate the chapter’s commitment to philanthropy as well as the importance to the community and the chapter.

This Award recognizes a member of the community who displays outstanding qualities and contributions to the chapter and Greek community as a whole. Employees of the Office of Student Involvement and chapter/faculty advisors are not eligible for this Award.
