JOB DESCRIPTION –SEN 1:1 TEACHING ASSISTANT

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide one to one support for a pupil by providing practical and learning support in class under the guidance of the class teacher.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensure you are aware of the child’s needs and assist with the development of personalised plans
  2. Keep an ongoing record of your work with the child, making note of the tasks undertaken and the child’s progress towards the targets in the IEP.
  3. Work with the class teacher and SENCO to develop short-term targets and evaluate the child’s progress towards these targets.
  4. Provide pastoral care and support and assist the child with integrating with their peers.
  5. Organise materials and resources to support the child’s learning.
  6. Contribute to termly reviews regarding the child’s progress.
  7. If appropriate, to be involved with meetings between the class teacher, SENCO and the child’s parents.
  8. Attend outings with pupils, providing care, supervision and support to both the learning and welfare of those under your control.
  9. Undertake all duties in line with the policies of the school, including those surrounding equality of opportunity and raising achievement.
  10. Undertake training as appropriate. Any other duties as directed by the line manager, in keeping with nature of the post.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Qualifications
Strong academic record including Maths and English at Grade C GCSE or equivalent
Minimum NVQ level 2 or equivalent
Knowledge
Knowledge of the National Curriculum.
Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements in schools.
Aptitude and Skills
Ability to contribute to planning pupil activities and monitor and record progress.
Ability to work flexibly as a team member and ability to relate successfully to both
support staff and teaching staff in the school.
Ability to demonstrate an understanding of children’s development.
Ability and commitment to implement the school’s ethos, acting as a positive role model for pupils.
Ability to work with pupils both individually and in groups.
Good interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to communicate with pupils and raise their attainment in the classroom and playground.
Experience
Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs.
Ex[erience of working with children with Emotional disorders
Experience in administering first aid and medication (Attendance on a recognised training course would be desirable.)
Personal Qualities
Ability to act calmly and quickly under pressure or in an emergency.
Demonstrate a positive attitude to learning and a commitment to in-service training and personal development.
Reliability and conscientiousness.
Absolute and total confidentiality of school affairsat all times.
