The time commitment ranges from 20 hours a month to 40 hours a month. Out of School Time Funders Network

Created in 2009, the goal of GFE’s Out of School Time (OST) Funders Network is to increase access to high quality OST experiences for young people and build systemic support to sustain the field. OST and expanded learning opportunities programs play an increasingly vital role in improving educational equity for all children. Research shows that high-quality programs can narrow achievement gaps and provide critical development supports young people need to become successful adults. Yet a small percentage of all U.S. children in grades K-12 are enrolled in out and school time programs. Leading education grantmakers are working in partnership with schools, government, non-profit organizations and the private sector to address the complex and difficult challenges to ensuring children and youth have access to high quality programs, including:

  • Building public awareness of the value of high quality learning opportunities beyond the classroom
  • Investing in systemic efforts to increase the quality of OST programming
  • Facilitating collaborations among intermediaries, providers and schools to enrich young people’s learning within and beyond the school day
  • Securing sustainable financing and sound public policy
  • Developing a skilled and stable workforce
  • Increasing participation of low-income children
  • Measuring the positive impact of program participation

Position Overview

The OST Funders Network Content Specialist is a contract position and willreport directlyto the Senior Manager of Partnerships in accomplishingthe scope ofwork listed below:

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ongoing and consistent communication with GFE staff to support the success of the OST Network;
  • Focused on GFE principles aligned with member interests
  • Develop content, and assist as needed to deliver content specific updates for members.
  • Initiate and monitor ongoing content specific conversations on GFE Connects - an internal member network.
  • Support OST network steering committee on an ongoing basis focused on maintaining alignment with the adopted strategic plan;
  • Work in collaboration with GFE staff to track outcomes in alignment with the strategic plan
  • Assist in the identification and cultivation of financial resources to support the network’s annual operating costs;
  • Support weekly calls with Senior Partnerships Director and monthly calls with steering committee members.
  • Deliver OST network content to satisfy proposal and reporting requirements for funder support of the network;

Desired Qualifications

  • Mastery of diverse group facilitation skills
  • A minimum of 8 years in education grantmaking and/or interdisciplinary experience in education or other impact fields related to education
  • Superior communication (writing, editing, presenting) skills
  • Ability to create and foster relationships with a diverse variety of members while upholding the highest degree of professionalism
  • Ability to generate and proactively implement ideas in fast-paced, service oriented environment
  • Outstanding collaboration, planning and organizing skills
  • Exemplary project management skills
  • Experience creating and delivering effective training or content to adults
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using technology as a tool for crowdsourcing and collaboration
  • Understanding of fundraising process
