Spanish I

In this course, you will learn essential skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in Spanish. Throughout this year, you will gain a greater understanding of Hispanic culture and the Spanish language. The BIG GOAL for all students is to achieve and overall average of 80% mastery of vocabulary, grammar, and LSRW (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) taught in this class in order to prepare oneself for success in future levels of Spanish and for life beyond middle school.

Foundations

This course is for students with fundamental knowledge of the Spanish language. You will be introduced to the cultures of the contemporary Spanish speaking world as you develop listening, speaking, treading, and writing skills through a range of activities that will depend upon your lively, well-informed and creative participation.

IB

As an IB school we are focused on combining skills, knowledge, independent critical/creative thought and international-mindedness as a whole. Our ultimate goal is to educate the whole person for a life of active, responsible citizenship. We hope to inspire our students to be life-long learners who are caring, reflective, principled, knowledgeable and confident to communicate in more than one language.

Grading will follow IB standards. Grades entered in GradeSpeed are equivalent to IB standards.

Expectations

*Failure to meet these expectations will result in consequences

ü  Arrive on time and start working on your bell work.

ü  Bring all required supplies to class (agenda, paper, binder, pencils, pens, etc.)

ü  Treat each other with respect

ü  No food or drinks unless specified

ü  Always give your best effort

ü  Follow Tanglewood/HISD rules (refer to Code of Conduct and Agenda)

Homework Policy:

All homework must be completed by the due date. There are no exceptions. If absent please see me.

Absences:

Students are allowed to turn in make-up work as a result of absences. However, it is the student’s responsibility to get all make-up assignments and turn them in the following class period unless otherwise specified. Any missed assignments/homework will be posted on LivingTree.

Supplies:

The following supplies are required for this course:

- 3 Ring Binder

- 1 bottle of hand sanitizer (Foundations grade only)

- 1 box of tissue paper (Spanish I grade only)

* If other materials are needed throughout the year you will be notified in advance.
