GRADES 1 and 2 Primary Reading (ELA) & Primary Math
DATA ENTRY Instructions
This document outlines the steps to manually record the scores into Virtual Counselor for the Grades 1 and 2 Primary Reading (ELA) test provided to all schools and the Primary Math test provided to Charter Schools.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you save prior to leaving the application at any time. If you do not, you may lose scores that you have entered.
Remember that if you are at a charter school, you must first log in to the VPN to be able to access Virtual Counselor in order to follow the steps below.
Steps to follow:
1. In Virtual Counselor select the TEACHER and COURSE & SECTION NUMBERS for which you want to record scores manually. In most cases this will be the COURSE & SECTION NUMBERS that correspond to the teacher’s HOMEROOM.
2. In the Select an Action menu, choose the Record End of Year MATH or Record End of Year READING option for the appropriate grade level. There are two different grade level options for each test, one for 1st Grade and one for 2nd Grade.
3. The following screen will open with the student names populated. Before entering the students’ incorrect answer choices make sure the online form represents the appropriate class.
You will be entering the student’s incorrect answer choices into the item number field in Virtual Counselor for each student’s Primary Reading and Primary Math tests only. To do so, click on the square that corresponds to each of the student’s incorrect answers. As you click each incorrect answer, a red “X” should appear, and you will see that the percent score will be updated on the left-hand side of the screen. If the student got all of his or her answers correct, click the 100% box. If the student did not take the test, click the No Test box. Once all scores have been entered, click the Save Scores button.
If you do not wish to enter all scores at once, you may save what you have entered and re-enter your class later to update information until the end of the entry window. However, in order to save the data you entered, you must mark something for each student. Select the No Test option for students who have not yet tested or for those who you wish to enter at a later date.
