The Corporate Governance Team

The SSgA Corporate Governance Team is responsible for developing SSgA’s proxy voting and engagement guidelines, managing issuer engagement, and undertaking research and analysis of governance and sustainability related issues. SSgA’s approach to engagement and proxy voting is focused on maximising the long-term value of client portfolios.

The Corporate Governance Team, based in Boston and London, consists of investment professionals with expertise in corporate governance and company law, compensation, accounting as well as environmental and social issues.

The position

PRINCIPLE, Governance Analyst

SSgA is looking for an analyst to join our Corporate Governance Team. The position requires familiarityof corporate governance, proxy voting and environmental and social considerations within an investment context. Experience or knowledge of financial and capital markets will be viewed favorably. The individual will be responsible for all processes supporting the corporate governance team, which include:

  • Voting proxies at company shareholder meetings across our global holdings.
  • Engaging with companies on ESG/corporate governance related matters.
  • Supporting the research and analysis functions within the governance team.
  • Data gathering, database maintenance and organization and record retention and retrieval.
  • Liaising with service providers (internal and external) including, but not limited to: management, vendors, compliance, legal and operations groups.
  • Assisting the Department head in any other matters as required.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Three plus years’ experience in financial services, consulting or proxy advisory with an understanding of corporate governance and proxy voting preferred.

  • Understanding of operational issues related to proxy voting
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to multi-task and manage workload
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required and working towards MBA or other Master’s preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, including work with Excel.
  • Knowledge of environmental and social issuesthat may impact business performance, strongly preferred.

LOCATION

The position will be located at State Street Global Advisors Boston office.
