Writing Sort
Ask your child to sort the words into categories like the ones we did in school. Your child should read each word aloud during this activity and put the card under the correct pattern. Ask your child to explain to you why the words are sorted in a particular way. Then have your child mix up the cards and sort them as fast as possible.
*Nothing has to be handed in on Tuesday morning for this homework. / Do a blind sort with your child. Lay down a word from each category as a header and then read the rest of the words aloud. Your child must indicate where the word goes without seeing it. Lay it down and let your child move it if he or she is wrong. Repeat if your child makes more then one error.
+ABC Order / Assist your child in doing a word hunt, looking for words in books, magazines, or newspapers that corresponds to the skills of the week. Try to find two or three for each category. Please glue/tape the words to the bottom of the 5 sentences page.
* Also have your child write five sentences for five words on the list of the week. / Do a writing sort to prepare for the Friday quiz. As you call out words at random your child should write them in the correct categories. Call out any words your child misspells a second or even third time if needed.
*Have your child write on the page given
Spellingcity.com is a great reinforcement activity online for these words! It is also a free app!
