General Specification - Sealing/Isolation Gasket – One-Piece Continuous Seal Element

For Flanged Pipeline Systems - Energy Market – Critical/Extreme Service

Effective: 3/12/12

General Application Description: Critical/Extreme Service Applications. Materials for sealing gaskets on pipes containing gas, natural gas, oil and other hydrocarbon based medias (up to 302ºF, 150ºC) shall be manufactured of the following components:

Sealing/Isolating Steel Cored Gasket

One isolating and sealing gasket, FLOWGUARD Type “E” (Fits Over Bolt Holes) 0.160” thick, G10 fiberglass reinforced laminate. Containing a precision tapered groove to accommodate Press-n-Lock, Glue-Less Seal Groove Technology, which is a press-in PTFE (Teflon), controlled compression, and self-energized seal. This seal element shall be a one-piece continuous and non-spliced. Sealing element placement shall accommodate either flat, raised or RTJ face flanges. The G10 retainer shall have 750-800 volts/mil dielectric strength and a minimum 65,000 psi compressive strength. The I.D. of the flange isolating gasket shall be coated and match the bore of the flange in which it is installed.

If the parameters above do not meet your application needs, consider using the COREGUARD or POINTGUARD Sealing/Isolation Gaskets manufactured by 3-FLOW, Inc. For COREGUARD Type E and sizes over 24”, consult with 3-Flow, Inc. or an authorized 3-Flow, Inc. representative.

Quality

Gaskets shall be manufactured at a facility that has an internal quality management system. Submittals shall include a copy of manual, if required by end user. Gaskets shall be A.R.R.A Compliant and 100% made in U.S.A.

Availability

Gaskets shall be manufactured by 3-Flow, Inc. in U.S.A. and can be purchased through authorized stocking distributors. Equal or alternate products should be submitted to an engineer or end user 14 days prior to bid date.

Performance suitability and material compatibility shall be determined by the user.

Note: For higher temperature solutions (up to 392ºF, 200ºC), end user can specify a PTFE (Teflon) energized sealing element and a G11 retainer (550 volts/mil – compression strength of 63,000 psi).
