5 / The purpose of this qualification is to provide the aeronautical engineering industry with graduates who are able to enter the workforce in a variety of aeronautical engineering work roles, or progress to further training.
The qualification is intended for learners who are planning to embark on a career as an aeronautical engineer.
The aeronautical engineering sector of the aviation industry will benefit through employment of knowledgeable and capable staff.
Graduates of this qualification will be equipped with a wide ranging base of Aeronautical Engineering skills, knowledge and practical experience that will prepare them for employment in a variety of Aeronautical Engineering workplaces.
Outcome Statement / Graduate profile / Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
-  complete maintenance tasks which may include structures, hydraulics, landing gear, propulsion, flight controls, electrical, avionics, fuel, air conditioning and pressurisation, in accordance with aeronautical publications, including aircraft maintenance documentation.
Education pathway / This qualification provides a pathway to other training opportunities, both off job and on job, in Aeronautical Engineering and/or in-house aircraft type specific training.

·  New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Gas Turbine Overhaul) (Level 4) [Ref: 2910]
·  New Zealand Diploma in Aeronautical Maintenance Certification (Level 6) with strands in Aeroplane, Rotorcraft, Powerplant Piston, Powerplant Turbine, Electrical, Instrument, and Radio [Ref: 2907]
Employment pathway / Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to work as a basic unlicensed aeronautical engineer.

Qualification award / This qualification can be awarded by any education organisation which has an approved programme of study or industry training leading to the qualification.
Evidence requirements for assuring consistency / Evidence associated with the achievement of qualification outcomes will include the following:
-  Employer surveys to determine if graduates of the qualification meet the graduate outcomes.
-  A range of workplace evidence demonstrating that graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes.
May include other relevant evidence as appropriate.

General conditions for programme / To achieve this qualification trainees must at all times comply with aviation regulations applicable to aeronautical engineers.
