University Programs Council Application for Current Chairs

University Programs Description:

There are two purposes that University Programs was created to serve: 1) to provide a balanced schedule of diverse cultural, social, educational and recreational events for the enjoyment and benefit of the university community by making wise use of the allocated student activity fee and 2) to provide the opportunity for student development and leadership through the initiation of these events.

University Programs is a Registered Student Organization within the Office of Student Activities. We strive to provide students with fun and engaging events on campus that expose students to various cultures, ideas, and entertainment. UP consists of several student-led committees, each of which specialize in and plan all events for that area.

Committee Chair Description:

All committee chairs must:

  • Attend weekly University Programs Council Meetings.(Wednesday at 5:30pm during the fall and spring semesters)
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of regular office time a week. Additionally, the chair must establish and maintain regular meetings with his/her Student Activities Advisor.
  • Create and sustain programmatic efforts that meet the mission statement of the committee.
  • Adhere to the Arkansas Drug Free Workplace Policy, in addition to any other state or federal employment guidelines as necessary.

Anne Kittrell Art Gallery Coordinator

  • This committee chair is responsible for creating awareness through art of issues relevant to students, faculty and the Northwest Arkansas community.
  • Coordinate efforts, events, and exhibitions in the Anne Kittrell Art Gallery.
  • With the help of the committee advisor, the Art Gallery Coordinator will supervise the Anne Kittrell Art Gallery Student Guards.

Coffeehouse Chair

  • This committee chair is responsible for slam poetry contests and open mic nights.

Comedy Chair

  • This committee chair is responsible for bringing stand-up comedians, comedy related events, and improv workshops to campus.

Cultures and Concepts Chair

  • This committee chair is responsible for lectures, awareness events, and performing arts events that highlight cultural and current events.

Daytime Chair

  • This committee chair is responsible for programming a variety of events that occur on campus during the daytime.

Digital Media Chair

  • This committee chair is responsible for the selection of movies to be shown in the University Programs Video Theater as well as other media related events for students to enjoy.
  • Coordinate efforts events in the University Programs Video Theatre.

Music Entertainment Chair

  • This committee chair is responsible for all aspects of concert production including acoustic artists.

Special Interest Chair:

  • This committee chair is responsible for bringing traditional and unique events to campus that cater to the unique interests of students.

Applicants must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.25 and enrolled in at least 12 hours as an undergraduate or 6 hours as a graduate student, and not be on judicial or academic probation.
