GKNAerospace

Offer a Higher Level scheme, post A-levels,the minimum entry requirements are 2 A-levels at grade C or above including maths and a science (physics or chemistry). The recruitment campaign starts late Jan or early Feb. There maynot be anything on the GKN website but the open evening and recruitment opportunities will be advertised in the Bristol Evening Post and Apprenticeship website.

Airbus

Craft Apprenticeships –

To apply you must have a minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent; this includes Welsh, Scottish and International equivalents only) at grade C or above in maths, English Language, science (double award) and preferably one related subject; these could include an Engineering Diploma, Principle Learning, PEO Level 2 and Pathways to Apprenticeship. If GCSE level science has been taken as single subjects thenone of the sciences gained must be physics.

Airbus Sponsored degree– aeronautical engineering

To apply you must have a minimum of 300 UCAS points withat least two A Levels (or equivalent; this includes Welsh, Scottish and International equivalents only) at grade B or above in maths and physics. Additionally, six GCSEs at grade B or above including maths, English, science (double award) and preferably two related subjects; these could include anEngineering Diploma, Principle Learning, PEO Level 2 and Pathways to Apprenticeship. If GCSE level science has been taken as single subjects then one of the sciences gained must be physics.

Delphi Diesel Systems:

An open evening event takes place each year in February. In 2016, there will be 10 Apprenticeship vacancies, however the mix of different types are currently unknown.

Delphi offer Advanced Craft Apprenticeships, Mechanical Engineering Manufacture and Advanced Maintenance Apprenticeships from GCSE. The entry requirements are 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above including mathematics and science (physics). The Maintenance Apprenticeship includes studying to HNC level.

Higher Technician Apprenticeship (studying to HND level). The entry requirements are at least 2 A levels in maths and physicsgrades A – C, plus 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English.

For all apprenticeships you must be able to travel to Gloucestershire Engineering Training in Gloucester and to the Delphi factory in Stonehouse.

Offer Advanced Apprenticeship opportunities in the following areas, applicants must have at least 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above (or equivalent) to include Maths, English & Science.

The programme follows a structured Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering. This National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is based on national occupational standards requiring you demonstrate both engineering skills and knowledge, with the ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems.
You will spend time in the first year at a private local engineering training provider where the relevant qualification units will be delivered and assessed. Upon completion of these units the remainder of this qualification will be delivered and assessed within the workplace. You will also spend time in other departments along with enrichment opportunities to support your individual training needs and personal development.

Inspector

You will play an important part in ensuring our product meets the stringent requirements of our customers. As an Inspector you will be responsible for inspecting smaller sub-assemblies right through to the largest Boeing 787 landing gear. You will also be responsible for recording serial numbers unique to the production of our landing gear to ensure traceability and provenance.

Fitter

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute as a key player in the on time delivery of landing gear to the customer. Working to aerospace specifications and internal processes, your main responsibility will be the assembly of a range of main landing gear components to a finished product and the completion of any relevant administration.

CNC Machinist

You will be responsible for machining large, high value landing gear components from high tensile steels and titanium across a range of Airbus and Boeing aircraft. This precision engineering uses the latest technology in CNC machining centres. You will also be responsible for self- inspection and tool management.

Planner

As a planner you will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of a comprehensive list of raw materials, components and assemblies required for the manufacture of our product from design data using the Company SAP system. You will validate customer demand within SAP and construct master production schedules. Your role will also include the generation and maintenance of the overall Supply and Manufacturing Plan for main landing gears and spares to include the timely and cost effective implementation of design modifications and condition of supply change. You will participate in the global planning for final assembly across our other sites for major structural part manufacture.

Procurement Leader x 2

As Procurement Leader you will support the development and management of our supply chain to meet overall performance expectations with regard to quality, cost and delivery. Managing a portfolio of local and global suppliers, you will be responsible for order book management, confirming and communicating our business requirements, and negotiating deadlines and quantities with suppliers to ensure business needs are met. You will also measure and analyse performance, and will conduct regular supplier review meetings developing robust internal and external recovery action plans for poor performing suppliers.

Machinist – Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul

You will play an important part in the process of Repair & Overhaul ensuring the landing gear and components are delivered on time to the customer. Performing various traditional precision machining operations, your responsibilities are also to ensure and verify that the components are within manufacturing repair limits before passing them on to the next stage of the process.

Inspector – Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul

As an Inspector you will undertake the important role of inspecting a range of our landing gear and components to ensure they meet the requirements of our customers. You will also be responsible for recording serial numbers unique to the production of our landing gear to ensure traceability and provenance.

GE Aviation :

GE Aviation offer Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeshipsand Electronic Engineering Apprenticeshipsfrom GCSE.The entry requirements are four GCSEs or equivalent at grade C and above including English, maths, a science or technology based subject.

Higher Apprenticeships

1) Aerospace Computer Systems Engineers (need 2 x A levels or equivalent at or predicted grade C or above, one of which must be maths or physics) - apprentices gain a Foundation Degree in Aerospace Computer Systems Engineering from UWE, plus it can lead to a BEng/BSc (Hons) degree. 2) Operations Leadership (need 3 A levels or equivalent at or predicted grade C or above). Leads to a foundation degree in Operations Leadership Capabilities from University of Coventry. The Edison Engineering Development programme is a two year programme open to graduatesonly.

Spirax Sarco:

Spirax Sarco, offer work experience in a variety of different departments.

Every year, their Cheltenham HQ take on about 10 Apprentices, recruitment starts in January 2016 (please see website).

Apprenticeships are offered in 2 engineering roles;

Advanced Craft – practical experience of producing parts and products. Training includes basic tool making, welding, multi axis machining techniques, and inspection.

Advanced Technician – theoretical and practical tasks covering all aspects of the business. Training includes machining (learning how products are made), purchasing and product development. At recruitment stage a decision is made about whether the apprentice will be on the craft or technician route, although there is a degree of flexibility (as much of the training is the same, especially in year 1). Both Apprenticeships are to Level 3 and both require 5 GCSEs A-C to include maths, English and science. Once the Level 3 is achieved, further learning to HNC/D or degree level may be possible.

AGraduate Development Programme for those with at least a 2:2 honours degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, software, systems), engineering with business or finance, physics or computer science, work experience in various departments.

Renishaw:

Technical and manufacturing engineering Apprenticeships are accepted from GCSE for those with a minimum of five GCSEs grades A*-C in English and science and B in maths. Apprentices study either NVQ or HNC qualifications and have the opportunity to study to a higher level e.g. HND/degree.The vacancy deadline is usually mid-March.

Higher Level Software Engineer Apprenticeships are available and candidates are accepted with grade C A-levels subjects or equivalent (280 UCAS points), with at least one in either maths or physics and a second in a computer science related subject. You will study towards a BSc in Software Systems Engineering. The vacancy deadline is usually the end of January.

Graduate opportunities exist at Renishaw for those who qualify with a 2:2 or above in one or more of the following disciplines: Mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics, electronic engineering, manufacturing, optical engineering and software engineering.

Renishaw offer work experience to pupils in year 10-12 who attend schools in the Gloucestershire area. Applications open in January and a letter and CV if possible, is required expressing your interest in engineering and Renishaw and highlighting which area you would like to be placed in e.g. mechanical, electronic or software engineering .

Rolls-Royce

Advanced Apprenticeships either practical or technical. The submission date is Feb. Entry requirementsare 4 GCSE to include English, maths and science A*-D.

Higher Level Apprenticeships in engineering or manufacturing engineering. The entry requirements are A-Level - Grades A* to B in maths, physics/chemistry and one other (achieved orexpected) or BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in an Engineering related subject including further maths – Merit.

GCSE - Grades A* to C, 1 A or 2 A-C in maths (higher paper), English Language, a relevant science or technical subject (not combined science).

Rolls-Royce also offer Internships and work experience, for safeguarding reasons, we are requesting only pupils/students within a reasonable travelling distance to local to a Rolls-Royce site should be considering nominating their students.

The RAF

The RAF offer Advanced Engineering Aerospace/Mechanical/Avionic Apprenticeships. The entry requirements are 3 GCSE grades C and above to include English, maths and science some require a physics based science including engineering. Although advertised as Apprenticeships, if successful you will sign up for the minimum length of service required by the RAF for the role you choose.

Precision, air and land systems (PALs) company based in Cheltenham.

Offer advanced level electronics and mechanical four year apprenticeships studying towards a level 3 BTEC and an HNC/ONC in engineering. The entry requirements are 5 GCSEs A*-C including English, maths and science.

Applications normally open in December and assessments and recruitment takes place during February and March. Notification of the vacancy is via . Successful candidates are usually the best person on the assessment day.

Placements are available to undergraduates during their sandwich year, this may lead to a job after completing your degree.

Unilever

Multi-skilled Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship.

This is a 4 year scheme leading to an HND. Current apprentices spent their first year at a College in Cheshire, being accommodated in a hotel and paid a good salary! Unilever have taken students 16-19 years old in the past, as long as they can demonstrate their interest and practical skills.

Entry requirements are:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at “C” or above or equivalent including English, maths and science / technology / engineering related subject (B in maths is desirable); please state your predicted grade in your application if you have yet to receive your result
  • Applicants must be passionate and enthusiastic about engineering
  • Practical creativity, manual dexterity and the ability to handle tools
  • We would like to hear about an engineering project you've done at school, or an engineering club you've been involved with; if you enjoy repairing cars, bicycles or motorbikes or any other items you’re a perfect match for this apprenticeship
