Irish Antique Dealers Association
The Irish Antique Dealers Association (IADA) are delighted to announce the launch of a €10,000 Bursary. This bursary will be awarded to an applicant who undertakes a course of study in restoration or conservation techniques in the decorative arts. (furniture, paintings, metal, horology, glass, ceramics, porcelain, jewellery, textiles). The recipient will be announced at a special presentation at the revamped IADA Antiques Fair which takes place in Dublin's RDS, September 23rd - 26th, 2010.
In maintaining an appreciation of the decorative arts, the IADA wish to encourage professional training in preservation of this rich cultural heritage. Applications are welcome from residents of Ireland, north and south, wishing to work in this ancillary service to the antiques market in Ireland and from those who are already studying or working in this area.
"Skilled craftspeople are essential to maintain an appreciation and essentially the value, beauty and historical importance of antiques, " says George Stacpoole, President, IADA, "Because we are noticing fewer and fewer working in this area , we hope the bursary will ensure for this and future generations of antique collectors the preservation of their pieces."
Applications are now being accepted. The closing date for applications is August 27th 2010. A judging panel including representatives from the IADA, The National Museum of Ireland and The Crafts Council of Ireland, GMIT Letterfrack, will decide on the most suitable applicant. Depending on the calibre of entries, the Bursary may be divided and awarded to more than one candidate as the judges may deem appropriate.
Those wishing to apply for the 2010 IADA Bursary should apply in writing to 2010 Bursary Press Office, Irish Antique Dealers Association, c/o 32 Pleasants Street, Dublin 8. Applications will be acknowledged on receipt. A shortlist will be announced in September 2010 via advance of the Bursary Award at the Annual IADA Fair.
Applications must include the following information.
- Submission of suitability (max 300 words)
- Proposed /Current Course with college details and course dates (the recipient must undertake their chosen course by or before October 2011)
- Previous relevant courses undertaken / qualifications already received (not essential)
- Relevant work experience (not essential)
- Outline of how the bursary would be used, (including but not limited to course fees, accommodation/ subsistence costs, study expenses, equipment, business operating costs)
- C.V. and contact details
The 2010 IADA €10,000 Bursary has been made possible by Mr. Louis O'Sullivan. Louis O'Sullivan has a forty five year association with the IADA as organiser of fine art and antique fairs in Ireland and the Association's Annual Fair in Dublin's RDS.

The Irish Antique Dealers Association (IADA) is the trade association for antique dealers in the thirty two counties of Ireland. Since its foundation in 1969 the IADA's aim is to establish and maintain confidence between its members and the public in valuing, buying and selling. There are currently 82 IADA members countrywide.
