Osmaniye University is willing to host a group of volunteers in order to have a cultural exchange program with and for their students. Although the main task of the volunteers will be practicing English with the university students, they are also expected to run some workshops or other activities for the students. The students are 19-25 age group and the volunteers can be between 20-40 years old. Volunteers will have a chance to have very close contact with the students and learn a lot about them and Turkey. W: Using English as a tool to encourage the students to practice, organizing activities for the university students, being friend with them and having cultural exchange. A: In the guest house of the university. F: Will be supplied in the university. R: Volunteers need not to be a native speaker but a good level of English is necessary. GEN-03 GAPGENC FESTIVALSIIRT 29.04 – 14.05FEST 20 VOLS

GAP-GENÇ Festival , (www.gapgenc.org) aims to bring different youth NGOs together, in order to introduce themselves to each other and to the youth of the provinces in the south-east of Turkey. It is organized in different cities every year. (http://vimeo.com/32549812) This yearSiirt City Youth & Culture House which is a local NGO is the host. The festival itself will be a 3 days event between 04-07 May. Activities like concerts, exhibitions, panels, NGO fair, fine art ateliers, etc. will be a part of the festival. Young volunteers of 18-30 age will be preferred for this project.

W: Helping to the organization committee for realizing the festival i.e. setting up the activity areas and the stands in the fair area, setting up the tent city for accommodation, assist the ateliers, clean up the environment after the activities. Volunteers are also expected to organize an international group activity like a drama or any kind of performance and to help to foldu p the tents after the festival and maybe the renovation of the Youth & Culture House. A:First week in the tents and after the festival in a dormitory , sleeping bags and mats are necessary for the first week. F: Will be served at the site. LA: English LO:Siirt is a province in south-east of Turkey. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp. 29.04 Sunday. The group will depart on 30.04 Monday and travel all over Turkey from west to the south-east by coach (23 hours). Thus 1 overnight stay in Istanbul is compulsory with an extra cost of 20 Euro on bed & breakfast basis. The meals in Istanbul and on the way to the camp site are volunteers’ responsibility until the group reaches to the camp site. The rest of the camp days will be spent inSiirt province. T: İstanbul

GEN-04 MATH VILLAGE SIRINCE 25.05 – 09.06 RENO-CONS 10 VOLS

Have you ever heard of Mathematic Village? Probably not, because it is a 5 years old village. If you like nature and mathematic this is a tailor made project for you. If you hate mathematic you can still join the camp, as the project is not related with math but is about helping to build a non-formal education center in nature. Mathematic Village is created by a university professor aiming to endear math to young people. Around 80 math lovers gather in this center during summer holidays, to learn, exercise and study math. International and national math professors are voluntarily sharing their knowledge with young students during the mathematical activities. W: The center still needs some constructional work and landscaping and volunteers are needed for this task in order to prepare the complex for the coming season. A: In the complex of Math Village. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Food is provided by the staff of the Math Village. Volunteers help the staff for preparing, cooking the meals and setting up the tables. LA: English. LO: Sirince is a small village in the west of Turkey. Please be aware that the center is a bit isolated. No night life, TV or disco is available at the center. But the next village Sirince, which is only 15 minutes by foot, is very attractive and famous for its homemade wines and traditional architecture. The nearest town Selcuk, which is the home of world famous Ephessus open-air museum. The nearest city Izmir, is one hour away by coach . T:Istanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting, that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening.

GEN-05 CIRCUS & STREET ARTS FESTIVAL MARDIN 30.05 – 21.06 FEST 15 VOLS

Mardin Youth and Culture House is going to organize a “Circus & Street Arts Festival” and they need volunteers to prepare, run and perform in it. Anybody is welcome but people with skills on circus or street arts like juggling, clowning, stick walking, tightrope dancing-walking, fire blowing, capoera , mime, graffiti, acrobacy, illusion, etc., are especially welcome. You can watch the video at www.msafest.org to see what is going to happen. W: Helping to the organisation commitee to prepare the festival, setting up stands, tents, hanging posters, inviting people by different activities. But if you have a talent as mentioned above you can perform and teach it to the locals. A: In a dormitory. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the site. R: A motivation letter should be sent with the application form. LA: English. LO: Mardin is a city in South-east of Turkey. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp, in 30.05 on Wednesday at GENCTUR Office. The group will depart on 31.05 Thursday and travel all over Turkey from west to the south-east by coach (21 hours). Thus 1 overnight stay in Istanbul is compulsory with an extra cost of 15 Euro on bed & breakfast basis. The meals in Istanbul and on the way to the camp site are volunteers’ responsibility until the group reaches to the camp site. The rest of the camp days will be spent inMardin province. T: İstanbul

GEN-06LEARNING TOGETHER-3AKSARAY04.05 – 19.05 SOCI 3 VOLS

Aksaray University Foreign Languages Faculty, is willing to host 3 volunteers in order to have a cultural exchange program with and for their students. Although the main task of the volunteers will be practicing English with the university students, they are also expected to run some workshops or other activities for the students. The students are 19-21 age group and the volunteers can be between 20-40 years old. Volunteers will have a chance to have very close contact with the students and learn a lot about them and Turkey. W: Using English as a tool to encourage the students to practice, organizing activities for the university students, being friend with them and having cultural exchange. A: In the guest house of the

university. F: Will be supplied in the university. R: Volunteers need not to be a native speaker but a good level of English is necessary. A motivation letter must be sent together with the application form. Applicants will be interviewed by the camp manager via Skype for selection. Please add your Skype address on your motivation letter. LA: English. LO: Aksaray is a city in the central Anatolia. T: İstanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting, that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening.

GEN-07 WITH MENTALS ANKARA 14.05 – 30.05 ART-RENO-DISA 10 VOLS

Ozkent Akbilek Vocational School trains mentaly disabled teenagers in order to prepare them for their future life. Apart from daily lessons there are ateliers like textile, handicarft, woodwork, drama, folk dances, nutrition, spor, drawing, computer. GENCTUR is looking for volunteers who will work together with the pupils who are slightly mentally disabled and have learning difficulties. W: Painting the garden wall and drawing pictures on it together with the disabled teenagers. Some restoration work in the school and its garden might be required. A: In the classrooms of the school. Sleeping bag and mat are necessary. Toilets and showers are shared. F: Will be supplied in the school. R: Volunteers must be ready and willy to work with slightly mentaly disabled teenagers. Smoking during the work with students and alcohol consuming will not be allowed during the whole camp. LA: English. LO: Ankara is the capital city of Turkey and located in central Anatolia. Camp site is a suburb of the city. T: İstanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting, that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening.

GEN-08 TREKKING ROUTE YUSUFELI 11.05 – 27.05 MANU – RENO 10 VOLS

The Kackar Mountain isoneofthemostpopular trekking areas in Turkey. In the Hevek valley, below the main range, are footpaths, mule-trails and stone paved paths through forests and between villages. Due to lack of use, winter snow and winds parts of the trails are now narrow, partly cut off, bushy, steep and untidy. We want to reopen these traditional trails to form a network of daywalks around the villages of Barhal and Yaylalar.W:Volunteers will remove stones along the path, reconstruct the broken parts, construct steps, mark the routes. Volunteers will have to walk to the workplaces, but a minibus will take them to a nearby point on a road. The working places are isolated but very beautiful, anda paradise for nature and hike lovers. 6 working hours per day excluding the lunch break which will be spent at the site.The work is physical, and requires much walking on steep mountain paths wich is sometimes very vertiginous. Be prepared for cutting vegetation, moving stones and painting waymarks in a variety of weather on narrow mountain paths.

A: In an old village house which is now a pension. Volunteers will sleep in rooms holding 2-4 people. Accommodation place may change as the work moves on. There may be an opportunity to camp out for one or two nights, so if you want to camp, bring a sleeping bag and mat.

F: Food will be provided by the pension owner and his wife. Lunches and water will be carried to the work site in your bags.LA: English. LO: Yusufeli is a small town near the Kaçkar trails, in Artvin Province. Artvin is the Northeast border city of Turkey to Georgia. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp on 11.05., Friday. The group will depart on 12.05 Saturday and travel all over Turkey from West to the Northeast by coach (21 hours). Thus 1 overnight stay in Istanbul is compulsory with an extra cost of 15 Euro on bed & breakfast basis. The meals in Istanbul and on the way to the camp site are volunteers’ responsibility until the group reaches to the camp site. The rest of the camp days will be spent inArtvin province.T:İstanbul

GEN-09 YOGA FARM YALOVA 01.06 – 14.06 AGRI 10 VOLS

Yoga Farm is owned by Ananda Marga (Way to inner happiness) Yoga Association and located in the country side. It has 30 hectares land and a house. They grow several fruits, vegetables, herbal plants in the farm and need volunteers to work in daily farm works. If you are doing yoga or at least interested in learning, this camp fits you very well. W: The days will start with optinal yoga practises and then work. The work will vary daily and consist of working on the field in open air without shed. The plan is working 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the afternoon. Therefore wake ups are early. Breaks are during the hottest hours of the day. A: In the farm house. Sleeping bag and mat are necessary. Volunteers will sleep on the floor. If you want privacy you can bring your own tent and set it up in the garden. F: Will be prepared by the farmer by the help of the volunteers. Only vegetarian food will be available. LA: English. LO: Yalova is a sea side city by the Marmara Sea, in the North-west of the country. The farm is a bit isolated, 15 km from the city and the next village is 2 km. Please be aware that there is no internet connection, TV or night life in this camp. Smoking and alcohol consuming is not allowed. Extra fee: 20 Euro to be paid in the farm to contribute for food. T: İstanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting, that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening.
