CLASS TITLE:CITRUS PROMOTIONS SPECIALIST

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work planning and coordinating citrus merchandising or advertising programs or planning and coordinating the marketing of citrus fruit and products through the fund raising trade incentive program activities sponsored by the Florida Department of Citrus.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Coordinates and negotiates contracts with organizations for trade sales incentive promotional program.
  • Reviews and evaluates merchandising promotional ideas, materials and media.
  • Assists independent growers, shippers, and processors in planning the promotion of individual brands or products.
  • Assists in the implementation and management of all fresh and processed commodity advertising and promotional programs for the department, including domestic, foreign, consumer, trade, by-products and gift fruit.
  • Advises the citrus industry of progress of field activities relating to fundraising and other special promotional programs.
  • Develops and implements the annual advertising program for the department's fundraising activities.
  • Administers the department's sponsored advertising rebate program designed to increase the sale of citrus products.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of advertising and promoting merchandise.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of program planning and evaluation techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and advice to wholesale and retail food outlets.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate promotional activities.
  • Ability to coordinate and negotiate contracts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to analyze economic trends in agriculture.
  • Ability to design and develop advertising and promotional materials.
  • Ability to review and evaluate merchandising data.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in merchandising, marketing, agriculture, advertising, business, nutrition, or home economics and three years of professional experience in sales, promotions, merchandising, marketing, public relations or advertising; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and four years of professional experience as described above.
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
