JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Permitting Official

The Municipality of Skagway is accepting applications for a Full Time Permitting Official position. This is a Regular, year round position and is eligible for benefits.

WAGE RANGE: Grade: 16, Step One Entry Level Range $26.78 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience coordinating with local, state and federal government agencies.
  • Good organization skills and deadline management.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to respond verbally and in writing to controversial and sensitive issues.
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs including Excel and Microsoft Word.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the review and approval of building plans for all structures built in Skagway requiring a building permit. This review is limited primarily to life/safety issues, but does cover a variety of structures and disciplines. This includes but is not limited to life/safety, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing plans for residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and storage structures.
  • Responsible for inspection of buildings under construction to assure compliance with approved building permit and applicable building codes and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for enforcement of local Planning and Zoning provisions as applied to the respective building permits, conditional use permits and variance permits.
  • Responsible for enforcement of local Historic District Regulations as applied to the respective building permits.
  • Public education on building permits and the building code.
  • Assisting with the Planning & Zoning process including explanation of the process and zoning codes to applicants.
  • Manages plat maps, assists in answering questions for subdividing or replatting property
  • Assisting with the Historic District Commission process including explanation of the process and regulations to applicants
  • Attends and maintains records of Planning & Zoning Commission meetings and actions
  • Attends summer meetings and maintains records of Historic District Commission meetings and actions
  • Prepares meeting packets for Planning & Zoning Commission and Historic District Commission
