2-DAY HOIST WORKSHOP:

Full lifting hoists, standing hoists and weight-bearing transfers

Course Outline

This 2-day workshop provides therapists with a system for prescribing a full lifting mobile hoist system including hoists, spreader bars and slings in the home environment. Using the Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model as a framework, the workshop facilitates therapists to examine manual handling problems from a social perspective as well as from a physical standpoint.

The workshop presents a fresh look at risk assessment, equipping therapist with skills in creative problem solving, ensuring efficient as well as safe transfer processes. Therapists are facilitated in determining when a hoist is justified as well as what hoist to use in a specific environment. It also explores the negotiation skills in hoist prescription supporting an amicable and efficient intervention process between caregiver and receiver. Contemporary manual handling skills and latest evidence related to hoisting are presented to equip therapists with the skills to complete a comprehensive manual handling assessment and document their justification.
