Supplementary Table 2 Variation in women’s body mass index (BMI) and probability of being overweight (mean and 95% Confidence Intervals (low and high CI)) between individuals, PSUs, and countries after accounting for within-country covariates and within-country geographic variation in adjusted models for 54 low-and middle-income countries.

Body Mass Index / Overweight Probability
Level / 95% Low CI / Mean / 95% High CI / 95% Low CI / Mean / 95% High CI
Country / 16.55 / 19.86 / 23.17 / 0.01 / 0.05 / 0.24
PSU / 17.82 / 19.86 / 21.90 / 0.02 / 0.05 / 0.12

Note: The BMI values were calculated by adding or subtracting 1.96 times the square root of the variance at each level to the global mean BMI (19.86 - calculated by the adjusted model), and the overweight values were calculated by adding or subtracting 1.96 times the square root of the variance at each level to the global risk for being overweight and exponentiating the values to show odds-ratios; Overweight represents women with a BMI of 25 or above. The statistical tests were based on two-tailed Wald test using chi square distribution.
