  2. Film Series – Joe Piazza reported that our next film will be May 30, 2012. We will show “The Help”. The movie is 146 minutes long. He will cut out some of the scenes to make it fit our 2 hour time frame. Pat Prado suggested that we move the time of the film from 11:30-1:30 to 11:00 -1:00. She also suggested that the new time would be permanent unless we get drawback. The location will be JCK 1100 and we will serve pizza and soda. Pat will request for the pizzas to be delivered early. Jerry will purchase the paper goods and drinks.Joe will send the announcement to Pat on May 14 to be sent out to the campus. We have 16 people that have already signed up to view this film.
  3. Newsletter – Pat reported that the committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, May 3, 2012. She will get the date to Charlie Salas.
  4. Supervisor Training-Diversity Workshop was held on April 3, 2012 with Mike Dilbeck. The workshop was entitled Response Ability: Being an Every Day Hero. 70 staff members attended the morning session from 9:00-11:00. There were 29 staff members in the BSC session at 1:00.

Selma Selvera is in the process of completing the evaluation for the workshop.Committee members discussed some of the responses that they received from staff members regarding the workshop. Selma stated that in the morning session, once Mr. Dilbeck mentioned that he was a “gay man”the mood of the workshop tended to go downand staff members were a little resistant to hear what else he had say. Jacqui Todd suggested that it wasn’t necessary for him mention that because the people were already buying in to what he was s saying and they wanted to hear more up to that point. Fermin also commented that the workshop should have been more interactive.

Selma presented a brochure from a speaker that was introduced at a Professional Development event. Her name is Nina Godiwalla and workshop is “Mindworks, Managing Unconscious Bias.” Pat will check with Marsha Moore in Professional Development and get more information on this speaker.

  1. Promotional Items – The caps and pennants were a big hit at the FSS Annual Employee Appreciation Picnic on April 20, 2012. We ordered 400 caps and there were 360 attendees at the picnic. We still ran out of caps. The Picnic Committee was given their caps before the event started.

The employees commented that they appreciated the picnic being inside this time. The picnic was moved indoor due to the expectation of rain. It turned out great because you could really get the full effects of the disco lights and it really set the mood. The dancing was fun, too. The horseshoe tournament was rescheduled to May 4, from 1:00-5:00, due to the rain. The Golf Tournament went forth after the rain stopped. Jerry DeLeon’s team won the Golf Tournament.

Note: The FSS Fall Kick-Off is scheduled in August 2012. The committee made suggestions for the promotional items: lunch bag; Selma suggested a tote bag.

  1. Research/Diversity Quote-Pat stated that she has enough quotes to send out each month.
  2. Outreach Committee-Russell Clark is working with Gordon Thyberg, Director of Budgeting, to set a date for his staff to view the Drop-by-Drop Film. Once that group has viewed the film, Russell will schedule time for all other departments (not in the FSS Division).
  1. Committee Business – The FSS Diversity Committee Retreat is scheduled for June 18, 2012. Committee members made suggestions for the venue where we could hold the retreat: LBJ Ranch, Ally Training in Student Affairs, Six Flags over Texas (San Antonio), and lunch at Lyndon’s (the U-Club). Pat will work on the logistics of the retreat and report at the next meeting.
  1. Next meeting: June 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
  1. The meeting was adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
