FSHN Travel Fund Support Policy

(Amended by the Departmental Advisory Committee, April 2013)

To encourage participation in educational opportunities provided from attendance at national and international meetings, FSHN will provide travel scholarships to undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, who are presenting refereed research and scholarly work.

These travel funds are provided by the Clarence and Rosa Larsen Memorial Food Science and Human Nutrition Research Fund which was established by LaVohn and Marvin Isvik in honor of LaVohn’s parents Clarence and Rosa Larsen. This fund generates approximately $5,000 per year, hence funds are limited.

Based on availability of funds, undergraduate students may receive up to $250, and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows may receive up to $500 for domestic travel per fiscal year. Consideration will also be given for international travel if there is compelling need or benefit.

Priority will be given to participants who are presenting (first author on oral or poster presentation) at the conference, secondary authors will be considered only if funds allow. Those with financial support through grants or other sources should not apply for these limited funds. These funds are not meant for study abroad programs.

Application must be submitted after acceptance by the conference with a minimum of 30 days prior to travel. Applications may be submitted throughout the year, using the FSHN Travel Scholarship Application form.

The above groups and other FSHN personnel are encouraged to seek funding from other sources:

Undergraduate students may apply for travel grants through the Provost’s office:

Undergraduate and Graduate Students may apply for travel grants through the respective colleges:
