Re: Third Grade Musical Performance

It is with great pleasure that I inform you of the musical production of “bugz” on Thursday, November 6 at 6:00 p.m. The students are so excited and have been faithfully practicing every week in music class. It is going to be an outstanding performance. This childhood performance will be something that they will remember all of their lives. Every child will be an insect of some type. Attached to this memo is a costume description for your convenience. Luckily, this is the month of October so there are a lot of costumes available in stores due to Halloween. Also, if you want, you could go and purchase your costumes the day after Halloween and maybe save a lot of money. When choosing or designing your costumes, keep in mind that every student needs to be able to open their mouth to sing, clap their hands, dance, and march to the beat.

Congratulations to the students who auditioned and received a speaking part. Those students have already been given scripts. Students should practice projecting their voice, using body language, and speaking slowly so that the audience understands the words. The script is very funny! Be sure your child makes you and your family laugh when they practice their speaking part and acting.

Of course, we need assistance from any parents that could offer their time and expertise to decorate the stage. I will be contacting the room mothers/dads for assistance. Some props that we will need are tablecloths, picnic baskets, basic picnic items, and strings of “twinkly” lights. I always need a sound technician to run the sound system. Mrs. CharlyDuBose(para-pro and “substitute teacher extraordinaire”)is assisting with the production. She has extensive experience in theatre. On the day of the play, we will perform the play in front of the school as our dress rehearsal so students will need costumes on that day and parents to help them get dressed. Lighting is a huge problem in the cafeteria so there might be something a parent could do to assist us in getting better light in the room. I am open to all suggestions and volunteers.

Unless your child is assigned a specific bug with a speaking part, you and your child can choose the insect that you want to be.

Please return the attached page with information and your intention to be at the play by Friday, October 17. I hope we have 100% attendance. It will be “the best we’ve ever had” as stated in the opening of the play. Thanks in advance for your support of this production!

Please return this form to Mrs. Shook by Friday, October 17.
