Friends Tuition Centre Report of academic year 2013-2014- Paripooranam K

Dated; 13 April 2014

Background

Seeyapoondi is a small village with approximately 500 households. It is in Villupuram Dist. about 5kms from Melmalayanur. The children go to high and higher secondary classes by govt. buses which has only only two services once in the morning as pick up and another in the evening for dropping the children.

The village does not have any common place to come together after their work. There are approximately 10 SSLC students passing out in the village every year. They also do not have any common place to study or learn more. The 10th students who wanted to go for after school tuition for their extra learning, could not go because their safety issues. Sowe thought of starting a tuition centre for the children who are doing their SSLC.

Year end report with accounts

Last June I had given the proposal for the Friends Tuition Centre for the academic year 2013-2014 to Asha for Education. For the amount of Rs50,000. It has approved by Asha volunteers. I started the work in the month of October 2013. First I had the roofextended with thatch outside my small family tiled house which I then modified to get better space. Then we selected the teachers slowly. After the selection of the teacher and practice sessions in Nov & Dec 2013, we inaugurated the tuition centre on the 1st of January 2014 with a teacher who finished B.Sc. B.Ed. We mainly focus on SSLC students, then slowly we have opened for 6th std to 9th stdwith great demand from the children.

We have introduced library books for the children from Thiruvannamalai Mobile library. We do not pay for the books but bear the transportation costs twice in a month to get and return the books
