Environmental Club News!

Thanks to a Senior at Gig Harbor High School, who attended Friends of Pierce County Environmental Clubs in elementary school, there will be an environmental club at Discovery Elementary School this year starting in October through February. If you know of any 4th or 5th graders at Discovery Elementary, who would be interested, please let me know.

Also, we are seeking donations to help get supplies for the students. If you can help, please send in your tax deductible donation today! Thank you!

Open Position to Serve

There is a seat available on the Pierce County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) which serves in an advisory and technical capacity to the Pierce County Council and Pierce County Public Works and Utilities Solid Waste Division on matters relating to management of solid waste disposal and recycling services.
SWAC members are citizens, members of public interest groups, professionals from the business community, operators of solid waste collection and recycling companies, and representatives of local governments.

The next few years could see many changes to local recycling and waste reduction programs. You can help shape those changes and improvements by becoming a SWAC member. All interested citizens, especially young adults and business representatives, are encouraged to apply. The SWAC meets at least quarterly, and members serve a four-year term. SWAC members are appointed by the Pierce County Executive and approved by the Pierce County Council.

2) Donkey Creek CHUM Festival - go to: http://www.cityofgigharbor.net/page.php?id=942

2014's eighth annual eventwill beSaturday, September 20 back at Donkey Creek the Harbor History, and Austin Estuary Park. Kayak, Canoe, and Paddle BoardRaces, Booths, Chum Burgers, Refreshments, "Paint Your Own Salmon" t-shirts, a "Salmon Maze", touch tanks, and story telling are just some of the activities thatwill bea part of the event again. Kayak, walk, bikeor drive to the Park to enjoy the fun.

6) This is updated notice of the final Council hearing on Proposal No. 2014-28 -
Meeting Time and Location.
An Ordinance of the Pierce County Council Establishing a Transportation Benefit District within Unincorporated Pierce County, Providing for Transportation Improvements within the District; and Adopting a New Chapter 2.102 of the Pierce County Code, "Transportation Benefit District."
The Final Council hearing on this proposal is set for October 7, 2014, at 5:30 pm. This meeting will be held at the Lakewood City Hall, 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood, WA, in Council District No. 6.
The Council hosts meetings in each of its seven Council Districts throughout the year. This meeting is being held in Council District No. 6 and will be in lieu of the regular 3:00 pm Council meeting.

Each speaker will each have 10 minutes and 10 slides to propose a destiny realized. Come have your point of view expanded… but only briefly.
