Academic Core

All students will schedule five courses in the academic core. Please note that data such as classroom academic performance, PSSA Mathematics performance, and teacher recommendation will be considered for placement in Accelerated Math 7, as this rigorous course prepares students to take Algebra I as an 8th grader.

Middle Core

Every student will spend two periods each day in middle core classes. Most of the courses offered have a duration of twelve weeks (one trimester). Every student is required to take physical education/health and five other trimester courses. Performance music students (band, chorus, chorus/band, strings, and strings/chorus) will be able to schedule two trimester courses in addition to physical education/health and their performance music course. Additionally, please note Keyboarding is a prerequisitefor Keyboarding Applications 7**.

World Languages

Please note that the world language that a student chose in sixth grade will be the language of study through 8th grade.

Special Scheduling Situations

Please note the following regarding special scheduling situations:

  1. If a student is taking a math course not listed on the course selection sheet (i.e.Geometry), please note that course on the blank line in the Academic Core section.
  2. Students requiring learning support seminar will be scheduled by their case manager.
  3. Students requiring gifted support seminar will be scheduled by their gifted coordinator.

Student Assignments

If parents wish to bring to the principal’s attention any special needs of the child, they may do so in writing or e-mail without requesting a specific teacher. Information shall be provided prior to June 1st so that consideration may be given to the request.

Question 2: How are foreign language courses scheduled?

Answer 2: Foreign language classes for seventh grade students are scheduled during 9th period. As we run on a six day cycle at the middle school, students take Spanish or French on days 1-3 or days 4-6 for the entire school year.

Question 3: What happens on days when my child is not scheduled in Spanish or French?

Answer 3: Students will be scheduled into Extended Learning Time. During this time, students will report back to their homeroom where they will have access to enrichment and remediation.
